A launch report dated 26 October 2026 says Perfect Pet added £7,000 and £10,000 lifetime levels for dogs and cats. The official comparison table names the top tier “Elite Premium £10,000” and defines its veterinary-fee allowance as £10,000 per policy year for all conditions combined. These products sit alongside existing lifetime plans that provide between £1,000 and £5,000 per condition.

The figures in this table are from Perfect Pet’s 2026 comparison information. A £10,000 annual pool can be more flexible than a per-condition cap when one diagnosis becomes very expensive, but multiple simultaneous illnesses can exhaust a shared pool faster than an owner expects.
What excess and age-related charges apply?
The Elite Premium £10,000 tier has a £249 excess for each condition in each policy year. That means a new policy-year excess can apply when treatment for the same condition continues after renewal, according to the policy terms.
Perfect Pet says it accepts dogs and cats from four weeks old and has no upper age limit for starting a new policy, including lifetime cover. A 15% co-payment applies to dog claims from age eight and cat claims from age ten. The co-payment is separate from the fixed excess, so older-pet claims can leave the owner paying both contributions.

When does cover start, and how do claims work?
- Buy the policy and check the schedule. Confirm the chosen annual limit, excess, co-payment and any individual exclusions before relying on the cover.
- Observe the waiting periods. Accident cover starts five days after the policy begins; illness cover starts after 14 days. A condition that begins or first shows signs during a waiting period is treated as pre-existing.
- Submit treatment information promptly. Claims must reach Perfect Pet within 90 days of the first treatment date.
- Use direct settlement where available. Eligible claims may be paid directly to the vet. If that cannot be arranged, Perfect Pet says it pays the policyholder by BACS.
Perfect Pet states that 97% of claims are settled within five working days. That is the insurer’s published figure, not a guarantee for an individual claim; missing records, disputes about eligibility or incomplete invoices can delay payment.
Are there hidden limits inside the £10,000 cover?
Yes. A review of the July 2026 lifetime-policy wording identified fixed sub-limits that can materially reduce reimbursement for particular services:
- £250 per general anaesthetic
- £100 for hospitalisation
- £200 for a referral consultation
- £50 for out-of-hours fees, or £150 where treatment is life-saving
The same wording review reports a 90-day claim deadline and exclusions while a dog is with a sitter, walker, kennel or groomer. These restrictions operate in addition to the annual aggregate, so an owner could have unused annual capacity but still face a service-specific limit.

What does the policy exclude?
Routine and preventative care is generally outside this cover. Perfect Pet’s information excludes dental illness, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, neutering and routine dental cleaning. Dental treatment resulting from an accident is treated differently under the policy terms, so the cause of the dental problem must be documented.
As with any lifetime policy, a condition that predates the start of cover—or first appears during a waiting period—can be excluded. The current schedule and wording control the outcome if a claim conflicts with a summary page.
Is Elite Premium £10,000 worth the higher excess?
It can suit owners who want a larger single-year safety net for complex surgery, cancer treatment or several costly problems, and who can absorb a £249 excess plus any age-related co-payment. The £10,000 pool is most valuable when one condition would otherwise exceed a £1,000–£5,000 per-condition ceiling.

- Read the policy schedule and full wording for your pet’s species, age and circumstances.
- Confirm how the £249 excess is applied at renewal and whether a 15% co-payment will apply based on age.
- Check every sub-limit, especially anaesthesia, hospitalisation, referrals and out-of-hours treatment.
- Ask your vet whether direct settlement is available and keep invoices and clinical notes for the 90-day deadline.

Can I insure an older dog or cat with the new policy?
