It means a property accepts pets under stated conditions—not that every hotel in a chain has the same policy. Marriott says fees, animal limits, size or weight limits, and stay-length rules are set at the property level. Budget and limited-service hotels
These can be convenient for road trips and short stopovers when straightforward access and a clear fee matter more than on-site pet services. Do not assume that every property in a budget chain accepts pets or follows one policy. Best Western advises travelers to contact the hotel to confirm both its rules and pet-room availability; properties may also decide whether to accept animals other than dogs. Extended Stay America describes its pet-friendly properties as extended-stay hotels and says rooms include fully equipped kitchens. Its stated policy allows up to two pets per suite, subject to size restrictions: pets must be no longer or taller than 36 inches unless the property manager approves an exception. The company lists a nonrefundable cleaning charge of up to $25 plus tax per pet per day for the first six nights, then up to $15 plus tax per pet per day. Treat these as possible extras rather than standard inclusions, and check what the specific hotel provides.

Compare the exact hotel, not just its brand. Ask for its current written policy and confirm the details that affect your animal, stay, and total cost:

- Animal limits: Verify permitted species, number of animals, and any size or weight limits. Best Western’s stated policy allows up to two domestic dogs of up to 80 pounds each; other animals require the property’s approval.
- Rules during the stay: Ask where your animal may go, whether it may be left alone in the room, and where the nearest relief area is. The pet-friendly label alone does not answer these questions.
- Room setup and amenities: Check whether the property provides bowls or a bed, or has a designated outdoor area. If you plan to bring your own supplies, find out what is already provided.
Plan for your animal’s needs
Choose a hotel category around the trip you are taking, then let the individual property’s written rules decide whether it fits. For a longer stay, consider whether a kitchen and suite layout would help; for a short stop, prioritize convenient access and a confirmed pet-friendly room.
