Before buying, check that your cat fits its 10.43-inch entrance, you have room for its footprint, and you are comfortable using PETKIT refill rings and handling the sealed waste bag at the unit.
What the Purobot Ultra does—and what it does not
The Purobot Ultra is an automatic litter box with a rotating camera, app connectivity and a mechanism that packs waste into a bag. PETKIT lists a microphone and speaker, 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, a 1080p camera with a 210-degree field of view, and describes 180-degree camera rotation and recognition for up to 15 cats. PETKIT lists the unit at 20.94 × 32.20 × 24.09 inches (532 × 818 × 612 mm) and about 32.18 pounds (14.6 kg), with an entrance 10.43 inches (265 mm) high. Its recommended cat-weight range is 3.3 to 22 pounds (1.5 to 10 kg). These are PETKIT specifications; measure the intended floor space and the route through doorways before bringing it home. Fit is not just a matter of weight. WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins reported that the entry felt cramped for her 20-pound cat. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a universal fit test, but it is a reason to consider your cat’s size and posture as well as the listed weight range. WIRED’s hands-on review
PETKIT cautions against use for kittens under six months or under 3.3 pounds (1.5 kg), saying they may not trigger the weight sensors. For small kittens above 1.5 kg, it suggests Kitten Protection Mode, which disables auto-cleaning and periodic cleaning. How much maintenance does it really save?
PETKIT says the 10-liter waste bin can hold waste for “up to 20 days” without scooping for one cat. PETKIT identifies this as a lab estimate based on one adult cat’s toileting frequency, and says actual use depends on household patterns. It recommends packing more often in hot, humid conditions. Waste packing reduces direct handling, but disposal is not entirely hands-free. PETKIT says packing cannot be started remotely in the app: you must be at the unit to start packing, remove the sealed bag and trigger auto-bagging at the device. Plan on attending to the machine when emptying it rather than expecting the app to manage the whole process. PETKIT product FAQ

Refill rings and litter requirements
Auto-packing requires a PETKIT refill ring
PETKIT says the auto-packing system requires its exclusive refill rings and warns that using generic bags with the ring may cause malfunction. The company estimates about 10 packing cycles per ring, with replacement frequency varying by household use. Its refill-ring listing describes a three-piece package and NFC recognition. Use suitable clumping litter and a stable surface
PETKIT says the box supports most clumping litter, but advises against litter pieces longer than 12 mm or wider than 3 mm. It recommends fast, tight-clumping litter to help limit fecal streaking. The company also recommends a hard, level surface with about 2 inches (5 cm) of clearance from the wall; soft or uneven flooring can affect sensors. What owners should know about daily use
Even with the automatic cycle, loading litter and attending to packed waste remain hands-on chores. Higgins described refilling as awkward because litter has to be poured through the front opening. Her review also characterized the AI analytics as underwhelming. Those are reviewer-specific impressions; they may not match every owner’s experience, but they identify two practical points worth considering before purchase. WIRED’s review

For the United States only, PETKIT’s warranty policy says Purobot Ultra units bought through PETKIT’s official site or authorized US distributors on or after January 1, 2025 qualify for a two-year limited warranty, subject to the policy’s terms. Who should consider it?
- A possible fit: An owner with enough floor space, a cat within PETKIT’s recommended size range, and interest in camera and app-based visit monitoring.
- Think carefully if: Your cat is near the top of the weight range or has a broad build; the entry may feel tight, as it did for the cat in WIRED’s review.
- Look elsewhere if: You need a compact unit, want to use generic bags for automatic packing, or expect fully remote, hands-free waste disposal.
- Budget for: PETKIT refill rings if you plan to use auto-packing, plus suitable clumping litter and occasional manual attention.
For a meaningful comparison with another automatic litter box, compare footprint and entrance shape, supported cat size, litter limits, bin capacity, who initiates bagging, proprietary consumables, app and camera features, warranty terms and independent reports of cleaning and upkeep. Without directly comparable testing, there is no sound basis for declaring a universal winner.
