Whether it is a practical upgrade depends less on that headline score than on your cats’ age and weight, how many cats share the home, and whether they will accept a moving floor and a different litter.

The unit scoops waste into an 8 L container, so the capacity you need to empty is set by how many cats use it, not by the box itself. Cats.com rated ease of cleaning at 4/5. Expect to empty the container regularly, since the litter level and waste volume are the two things that determine how often you must act.

PetPivot lists a noise level of 38–40 dB. The figure is the manufacturer’s, and the test conditions are not stated. If noise matters in your home, for example in a bedroom or open-plan living area, check the unit in a comparable space if possible.
Tracking and placement
PetPivot says a stable litter mat can reduce tracking. The mat should not sit under the base or block the weight sensors, because that interferes with the unit’s operation.

- Use a small-particle mineral or bentonite clumping litter.
- Do not use long-strip tofu litter or crystal litter, which PetPivot does not recommend.
- Check that the litter passes through the screen before filling.

PetPivot recommends a gradual transition rather than a straight swap. The steps below follow its guidance.
- Confirm each cat meets the Auto Mode age and weight guidance, and that the household has no more than three cats.
- Measure the floor space and confirm the 31.5 cm entrance height suits your cats.
- Keep the existing litter box in place during the transition so cats have a familiar option.
- Place the AutoScooper beside the old box and let cats approach it on their own schedule.
- Fill with small-particle mineral or bentonite clumping litter, and observe at least one full cleaning cycle.
- If you use a litter mat, position it in front of the unit so that it does not sit under the base or block the weight sensors.
- Remove the old box only after every cat uses the new unit consistently.
If a cat avoids the new box for an extended period, consult your veterinarian rather than relying on the manufacturer’s guidance alone.

PetPivot’s guidance lists four routine tasks:
- Empty the waste container (8 L capacity).
- Top up litter to keep it at a usable level.
- Clean the sensors.
- Deep clean the unit.
The material reviewed does not set a fixed interval for these tasks, so your schedule will depend on how many cats use the box and how often you empty the container.
Safety, connectivity and manufacturer claims
PetPivot describes the AutoScooper as having sensor-aware safety, an open-top design and operation without an app or Wi-Fi.
