The IHeartDogs story behind “He Sat By The Road Missing His ‘Once-Shiny’ Coat And Needing Love” identifies the dog as Raleigh. Published by Dee Michaels on June 24, 2022, it recounts a roadside rescue and a gradual improvement—but does not provide veterinary records or establish Raleigh’s current health or adoption status.
What the story says happened to Raleigh
In the June 24, 2022 IHeartDogs feature, Dee Michaels describes Raleigh as a neglected stray found beside a road. The account says his coat was orange at first and later appeared with white patches as his looks changed.
The narrative says the rescuer believed Raleigh still had a chance, despite the possibility that others might have considered euthanasia. It describes him lifting his head and smiling as he left a transporter vehicle, then improving over time and eventually finding a companion. These are details reported in the feature, not independently verified medical findings or a complete account of his care.
What is—and is not—confirmed
The IHeartDogs article credits The Dodo via Facebook Watch as its story source. It does not name a veterinarian, clinic, rescue organization, or location, and it gives no treatment records or dates for Raleigh’s recovery. A November 2, 2023 IHeartDogs version repeats the central story and also names the dog Raleigh; it is not current outcome reporting.

A separate Galore Pets page dated October 5, 2026 uses the same headline but calls the dog Buddy and adds claims about malnutrition, veterinary assessment, foster care, and coat regrowth. Those details conflict with the older Raleigh account and are not independently corroborated. The two accounts should not be combined: the available information does not establish that the Buddy page describes Raleigh.
Raleigh’s current status
The available IHeartDogs stories do not establish Raleigh’s present health, placement, or adoption status. Without confirmation from a primary rescue or adopter source, his current circumstances remain unknown.
