Slate Cafe’s original owners announced that the dog-friendly Bennett Springs cafe would close after its final trading day on Sunday, 23 June 2024. They attributed the decision to rising operating costs and other commitments that left them unable to give the cafe enough time and attention. That announcement does not establish whether a cafe or successor business later operated at the site, or whether anything is open there now.
When did Slate Cafe close?
The owners announced the closure on 19 June 2024 and set Sunday, 23 June 2024, as their final trading day. PerthNow identified Slate Cafe as a Bennett Springs cafe about half an hour’s drive north-east of Perth’s CBD. The owners said the cafe had opened in October 2016, giving it a run of almost eight years under their account.

Uber Eats listed the delivery address as 12 Dulwich Street, Bennett Springs, and marked its own platform listing closed as of 15 July 2024. That date refers to the delivery-platform listing, not proof of the physical venue’s status.

Why did the owners announce the closure?
Slate Cafe’s owners said in the closure post, as quoted by PerthNow: “The rising operational costs has made it very challenging for us to continue operating in this current climate, and with all our increasing commitments elsewhere, we have been unable to give Slate Cafe the time and attention it deserves.” This is the owners’ explanation, not an independently verified account of the cafe’s finances.

Is Slate Cafe in Bennett Springs still open?
The available information does not reliably establish the site’s present status. The June 2024 announcement concerned the original owners’ final trading day; later user-review snippets refer to visits after that date and to new owners. Those reviews are not authoritative confirmation of current operation, ownership, or whether any later business was the same legal entity. Check with the venue or a current authoritative listing before making a trip with your dog.
