Confirm the model and current listing before buying, because price and availability vary by market and seller.
What the Snow Mountain is
Retailers describe the Snow Mountain as an open cat litter box with split construction, made from polypropylene resin. Its shape is meant to evoke a snowy peak: a half-dome body with raised sides and a wide front entry. Reviewers describe a footboard or grate intended to reduce litter carried out on paws, and a lining intended to contain spills. These are product-description and reviewer claims. We found no controlled testing that shows the grate or the lining works as intended.

Two points need care. First, retailers call the box open, but the Japanese directory describes a separable cover. Check the product photos and parts list to see which configuration your set includes. Second, dimensions are not uniform across sellers: at least one other retailer lists different measurements. Measure your intended placement space against the exact model you are buying rather than relying on the 45 × 45 × 30 cm figure alone.

These are a reviewer’s editorial ratings, not laboratory measurements or a published scientific statistic. The pattern is clear, though: the box is rated strongly on what it looks like and how well it contains odor, and weakly on build quality and value.

What owners liked
- Appearance and odor containment. Owners praised how the box looks in a room and how well it holds odor.
- Less loose litter. Reviewer Danielle Taraschi wrote: “1 cat loves it and the other is warming up to it. Definitely helps keep loose litter to a minimum and looks great in our home.” Note that this owner had two cats with different responses.
What owners disliked
- Cat rejection. One household reported that a cat refused to use the box.
- Tracking with paper pellets. Reviewer Jack Bowles felt tracking reduction was limited when using recycled paper pellets, and he did not think the price was worthwhile.
- Urine near the walls. Reviewer Brianna W said her cats liked the box, but urine deposited near the walls ran onto the floor.

Odor
Odor control is the box’s strongest rating (5 out of 5) and the feature owners praise most. The enclosed-feeling dome and raised sides are the design features reviewers credit. Odor performance will still depend on the litter you use and how often you scoop, and no independent odor testing of this model was found.
Tracking
The grate and footboard are meant to keep litter on the box and off your floor. Reviewer feedback on this is mixed: one owner reported limited improvement with recycled paper pellets, while another said loose litter stayed to a minimum. If tracking is your main worry, a separate litter mat is an option. The sources we checked do not show that a mat is sold with the Snow Mountain or made for it, so treat it as a separate purchase.

Urine containment
The raised sides limit splashing, but they do not stop urine from escaping. The reported problem involves cats that urinate close to the walls, where liquid runs over the edge onto the floor. If your cat tends to use the corners or edges of a box, expect to place it on a protected surface or use a tray liner, and check your cat’s habits before buying.

The split design means the cover and base can be separated for cleaning, which is the main reason to choose it over a one-piece box. The Cats.com review gives ease of cleaning 3.5 out of 5, which places it in the middle of the range. A practical routine:

- Scoop solid waste and clumps daily.
- Separate the cover from the base if your model has both parts.
- Wash each part with mild, unscented detergent, rinse well, and dry completely before refilling.

A discontinuation in Japan does not establish that the box is discontinued worldwide, and a sold-out listing does not establish that it is unavailable everywhere. The Cats.com review links to an Amazon listing, but the sources we checked do not confirm that it is the same Snow Mountain model or that it is currently in stock in your market. Verify this yourself before ordering.
Who this box suits
- Good fit: a cat that already uses open trays, an owner who values appearance and odor control, and a home where a 45 × 45 cm footprint fits comfortably.
- Poor fit: a cat that urinates near walls or edges, a household where tracking is the top problem, or a buyer who prioritizes construction quality or a low price.
Before you buy
- Confirm the exact model name, dimensions, and color on the seller’s page.
- Check whether the cover is included in the set you are buying.
- Note your cat’s habits, especially whether it uses corners and edges, and whether it has accepted open boxes before.
- Choose litter in advance; reviewers report that tracking results depend on the litter used.
- Check the return policy and the seller’s stock status, since availability varies by market.
If you buy one, the box is most likely to succeed when your cat already accepts open trays and you manage urine near the walls with a protected surface.
