What happens in Stella’s leaf-pile videos?
A widely reported clip shows Stella racing from the back of a vehicle toward a large pile, leaping in, and disappearing from view. The moment is simple: she charges forward, vanishes into the leaves, and emerges again. Her owner told The Boston Globe that she was obsessed with leaves and sometimes went into the pile with a toy, including her favorite tennis ball.

#1 Best Overall
- SUPER HIGH BOUNCE: Take fetch to new heights with the Ultra Ball, compatible with medium Chuckit! launchers. Made from durable rubber, this ultra-bouncy ball outperforms standard tennis balls. Lightweight and buoyant, it's perfect for exciting adventures on land and water.
- DURABLE RUBBER BALL: Built tough for revolutionary fetch games, our rugged dog toy features a textured surface and a thick rubber core that can withstand rough play. It's soft on your dog's mouth, but no toy is truly indestructible and not intended as a chew toy or for aggressive chewers.
- SIZING MATTERS: The medium Ultra Ball is 2.5 inches in diameter and best suited for breeds weighing 20-60lbs. Dog balls should always be small enough for your pet to carry but large enough that the ball cannot completely fit in their mouth. When in doubt, buy a size up.
- MAKE FETCH HAPPEN: Chuckit! toys make the best gifts for pet lovers. The Ultra Ball is just one of many indoor and outdoor interactive dog toy options we offer, including tumblers, tennis balls, and more. As the #1 stocking stuffers, Chuckit! toys have something for every pet.
- CHUCKIT!: For 20 years, Chuckit! has been leading the game of fetch. The special connection between pets and owners is at the heart of every toy we make. With iconic shapes and vibrant colors, Chuckit! toys elevate every adventure, strengthening the bond between you and your furry friend.
The videos’ appeal comes from a recognizable burst of canine enthusiasm: Stella runs toward the leaves, disappears into them, and returns. Her fondness for the pile is clear in the footage and in Hartman’s description, without needing a more elaborate backstory.
A fetch ball, not a specific product
Hartman said Stella sometimes took a toy into the leaf pile and identified the ball she retrieved as her favorite tennis ball. The reporting does not identify a particular brand or model. A generic fetch ball may be relevant to the story, but there is no basis here to recommend a specific product.
