How to choose and use a protector
- Observe where and how your cat scratches. Note the furniture location, whether the cat scratches upright or horizontally, and which textures it uses.
- Protect the targeted area. Consider a temporary slick or sticky barrier, or a furniture-mounted scratcher that offers an acceptable surface at the preferred location.
- Place an alternative close by. Set a stable vertical scratcher near an upright target or a horizontal scratcher near a rug or floor-level target.
