There is no single carrier measurement that works on every airline or aircraft. Ask the airline for the applicable dimensions for your flight and check that the carrier fits under the actual seat before purchasing. A soft-sided carrier may be practical if the airline permits it, but it is not universally required or accepted.
What if my cat cannot travel in the cabin?
Ask the airline whether it offers cargo transport for cats and what rules apply to your route and travel date. Cargo rules are not the same as cabin-carrier rules. Airlines may impose restrictions or require an approved kennel; USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) also advises checking kennel size, construction, security, cleanliness, feeding and watering containers, and labeling for the transport arrangement. What documents do I need to fly with my cat?
There is no health-certificate rule that applies to every cabin trip. DOT notes that some airlines require a certified health record issued within ten days of travel. Check the selected airline’s rule and ask your veterinarian which records fit your trip rather than assuming that one certificate or deadline applies to all flights. Can I take my cat on an international flight?
Possibly, but a ticket and airline approval do not establish that your cat meets the destination’s entry rules. Countries may require specific microchips, vaccinations, tests, treatments, health certificates, or certificate processing and endorsement. Start with APHIS’s official requirements for the destination and consult a USDA-accredited veterinarian early enough to complete the steps and meet the country’s timeline. How should I prepare my cat for air travel?
