Tonkinese: moderate build, several pattern types
TICA describes Tonkinese as medium-sized and muscular, with a balanced outline that is neither especially compact nor svelte. The breed’s pattern categories range from pointed, with higher contrast, through mink, with medium contrast, to solid, with lower contrast. These are breed-standard descriptions, not a reliable ancestry test. Blue eyes and points do not prove that a cat is Siamese, and aqua eyes alone do not prove Tonkinese ancestry. If pedigree matters, ask for documentation from a reputable registry or breeder rather than relying on appearance.
Which breed is more vocal or affectionate?
Both breeds are described as active, intelligent, social, and oriented toward human company. The practical distinction is a tendency, not a promise: TICA describes Siamese as very talkative and Tonkinese as chatty but generally less vocal. If you welcome frequent vocal interaction, a Siamese may suit your preferences; if you want a social companion with a somewhat more moderate vocal reputation, a Tonkinese may be worth considering. How much grooming do Tonkinese and Siamese need?
