It ships assembled, stores its scoop, brush and dustpan inside the design, and includes removable 8-inch Shelter walls. It is a reasonable choice for a small cat in a home with floor space to spare and an owner who wants a box that needs no liners. It is a poor fit for a large cat, a tight footprint, or a buyer who needs a return for any reason other than an unused, unopened box. Everything below comes from the brand’s own product pages and comparison material, which is the only source available for this model. No independent lab testing or owner survey of the Cove was found.
What the Cove is and how it is built
Tuft & Paw describes the Cove as an open-top box made from double-walled, thick matte plastic on a rubber base. The construction is rigid rather than flexible, and the brand presents the open top as a way to give cats more space and visibility. The box arrives assembled, so there is nothing to put together before the first use.
The included accessories are a scoop, a brush and a dustpan. Storage for the scoop and dustpan is built into the box, and a hidden handle is part of the design. The Shelter is an 8-inch partition the brand says is meant to contain litter and waste. It is removable, so the box can be used with or without it.

The weight guidance is a manufacturer statement, not a veterinary fit recommendation. A cat heavier than 20 pounds is outside the listed use, even if the box looks large enough.
Cleaning and upkeep
Tuft & Paw says no liners are required, and the product page states it plainly: “No liners are required, simply empty and wipe down.” Routine care is therefore emptying the waste and wiping the surfaces. For a deeper clean, the brand’s instructions are:

- Rinse or wipe away soap residue, then let the box dry before adding litter.
- Repeat this deep clean monthly.
- For old or stubborn urine stains that persist after years of use, the brand says an enzyme cleaner may be needed.
These steps are the manufacturer’s guidance. How much effort the box takes to clean, and how well it resists staining, has not been independently tested.
Open-top design and the Shelter walls
The open top is the central design trade-off. Tuft & Paw says it gives cats more space and visibility, which matters for cats that dislike feeling enclosed. The trade-off is that open boxes give litter and waste fewer barriers, and the Shelter is the brand’s answer to that. The raised walls, the brand says, help contain digging and urine aimed high.

These are product claims, not measured outcomes. The Shelter reduces litter scatter and high-aimed urine in the brand’s description, but it does not eliminate either. Cats that dig aggressively or spray over the top of a wall will still be able to leave a mess, and the Shelter is not a substitute for regular scooping.
Cove compared with the Cubby
Tuft & Paw describes the Cubby as a simpler version of its litter-box design. Its comparison material says the Cove adds built-in storage for the scoop and dustpan, uses a rigid double-walled build, and takes up more floor space.

The two official pages do not agree on the Cove’s interior area. The Cove page gives 14 × 20 × 6 inches, while the comparison describes the litter areas as the same but gives the Cove a different inner measurement. Use the Cove page’s figure, and measure your own space if the interior size matters to you. Neither model is shown to prevent tracking or spraying in every home.

That figure is hosted by the seller and can change, so it reflects the seller’s own review collection rather than an independent survey. No independent durability test, lab study or named-owner study of the Cove was found. The claims about cleaning, containment and cat comfort all come from the manufacturer.
