An adult leopard entered a Hetero pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Telangana on the night of December 16, 2022. Forest Department officials caught it the next day and, according to a report published by Scroll, were shifting it to Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad.
Where did the leopard enter the factory?
The reported location was Hetero’s pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Gadda Potharam Industrial Area, Sangareddy district, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The same Scroll report also reproduces an account describing the site as Hetero Drugs Limited, Kazipally Industrial Estate. Those are the two location descriptions used in the reporting; the account does not clarify their precise relationship.

How was the leopard rescued?
- It entered overnight. The report says the adult leopard strayed into the industrial unit the night of Friday, December 16, 2022.
- Security staff raised the alarm. A reproduced account says staff noticed the animal and informed forest and police officials.
- Forest officials caught it on December 17. Scroll reproduces a December 17 account attributed to Bachanjeet Singh’s TNIE report: “An adult leopard that strayed into a pharmaceutical company in Gadda Potharam Industrial area in Sangareddy, Telangana last night was caught by Forest department officials on Saturday.”
- The leopard was tranquillised and a transfer was reported. The reproduced account said it “is being shifted to Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad.”
Where was the leopard taken after capture?
The December 17 account, as reproduced by Scroll, said the leopard was being shifted to Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. Scroll’s report was published on December 18, 2022. Neither account establishes the animal’s condition after transfer or whether it was later released, so its eventual disposition cannot be confirmed from this reporting.

What the report does—and does not—confirm
The available account supports the basic sequence of entry, notification, capture and intended transfer. It is a secondary report, not a directly accessed Forest Department record, and does not identify the leopard’s sex, health, or origin. It also does not independently verify what happened after the planned transfer.
