Cats.com selected the Coziwow Wooden Outdoor Catio as its overall pick among five enclosures reviewed by Katelynn Sobus. Its weather-resistant wood, two latched doors and covered roof stood out in her hands-on assessment, though assembly requires drilling because the holes are not predrilled. It is not a universal choice: the right catio depends on where you’ll use it, how securely it contains your cat, and whether you can supervise outdoor time.

Which catio is best for your situation?
Choose the Coziwow for a covered freestanding outdoor setup
It is the clearest overall choice in Sobus’s comparison if you want shelves and a hammock under a roof, and you are comfortable drilling during assembly. Her report that a blanket stayed dry in one rainstorm is a single reviewer observation, not proof that the unit is waterproof in all weather or suitable for year-round exposure.

Consider the Aivituvin AIR37 for more room and climbing features
Its five shelves, two cat houses and multiple access doors offer more features than the compact picks. Weigh that against Sobus’s reported wood-splitting and alignment problems, and confirm the roof material with the seller rather than relying on a listing description that may not match the delivered unit.
Use the Outback Jack only for supervised, temporary sessions
Fast setup and collapse can suit a portable play area, but nonlocking zippers and the reviewer’s warning about predators and weather make it a poor substitute for a secure, permanent outdoor enclosure. Keep your cat supervised.

Keep the LovMor indoors, and account for its fit limitations
The review’s recommendation is indoor use. The unattached, undersized floor and doors that do not latch are important containment concerns, while the reviewer also says it is not suitable for large cats.
Look at the AIR22-M when footprint and mobility matter
The wheeled compact design includes several resting and climbing features, but the reported cracked wheel attachment and latch issue make careful inspection after assembly essential. A product described as wheeled is not automatically safe to move with a cat inside.

What to inspect before buying or using a catio
A catio is an enclosed outdoor space intended to let cats spend time outside while helping protect cats and birds. Designs range from premade or DIY units to attached, freestanding and contractor-built structures, as described by Cats Safe at Home. No product should be treated as escape-proof or predator-proof merely because it is called a catio.
- Containment: Check every seam, mesh panel, door, latch and zipper, including the floor or ground interface. For an attached unit, inspect the connection to the home and the window or door opening. Verify that access points close securely.
- Placement and dimensions: Measure the footprint and height, and confirm the position and dimensions of the home’s access point. Decide whether a fixed attached structure or movable freestanding model fits your space, rental terms and daily routine.
- Materials and assembly: Check whether wood arrives intact, holes are predrilled, hardware is aligned and the roof matches the listing. Read the instructions before assembly, then inspect the completed enclosure for gaps, loose panels and faulty latches before your cat enters.
- Weather and shade: Assess the actual roof coverage, shade and exposure where the unit will stand. Generic claims such as “weather-resistant” do not establish that a product is weatherproof or designed to remain outdoors year-round.
- Cat and household fit: Consider your cat’s size and number of cats, available vertical space, hiding and resting areas, and how easily a person can reach inside. Portable units require a plan for supervision.
Cats Safe at Home advises planning entry placement, sealing seams, accounting for shade and weather, and acclimating cats gradually. Its resources include DIY plans, materials, premade options and builders. For unusual layouts or a custom connection to the home, those routes may fit better than adapting an off-the-shelf enclosure.

Another format to consider: configurable panel systems
Omlet’s official U.S. page describes a configurable steel-weld-mesh enclosure that can be extended in sections and connected with tunnels, with optional covers and climbing accessories. That is a manufacturer’s description of a different system format, not an independently tested winner in Sobus’s five-product comparison.
