Most Pitskies are close to their adult height by about 10–12 months, but some continue gaining adult weight until roughly 18 months. Those are estimates, not a deadline: Pitskies vary with their parents, and height, weight, and broader maturity do not finish at the same time.
When do Pitskies stop growing?
For many Pitskies, height is close to adult size around 10–12 months. Adopt a Pet gives that age range in its Pitsky breed profile; its separate size guidance says adult weight may take until about 18 months. The estimates describe different milestones: a dog can reach near-adult height before finishing weight gain or filling out.

There is no single cutoff that applies to every dog. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) defines the puppy stage as birth until rapid growth stops, approximately 6–9 months, with timing varying by breed and size. That marks the end of rapid growth, not necessarily the end of all physical development. AAHA also notes that development phases blend gradually rather than switching on a precise birthday.

| Milestone | Typical timing or estimate | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Rapid growth slows or ceases | Approximately 6–9 months; AAHA general canine guidance, varying by breed and size | The fastest puppy growth is winding down. This does not establish that the dog has reached adult height or weight. |
| Near adult height | About 10–12 months; Adopt a Pet Pitsky profile | A breed-profile estimate for Pitskies, not a guarantee for an individual dog. |
| Adult weight and filling out | May take up to about 18 months; Adopt a Pet Pitsky size guidance | Weight and body condition can continue changing after height is nearly adult. |
| Broader physical and social maturity | Most dogs by 3–4 years; AAHA general canine guidance | This is a broad maturity measure, not a claim that a Pitsky keeps growing taller or gaining puppy weight until then. |

How big is a full-grown Pitsky?
Adopt a Pet gives a broad reference range of 35–75 pounds and 16–25 inches for Pitskies. Those figures are not a prediction for every dog: the mix can vary, and parent size influences the puppy’s eventual size. A dog may fall outside a broad profile range.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) offers general—not Pitsky-specific—growth-chart estimates: at 12 months, medium dogs are approximately 95% grown and large dogs approximately 85% grown. These categories cannot be used as a validated Pitsky month-by-month chart. AKC also cautions that estimating an individual mixed-breed dog’s final size is difficult when heritage is uncertain.

Why height, weight, and maturity differ
Height and skeletal growth are not the same as finishing weight or developing an adult body condition. AKC Chief Veterinarian Dr. Jerry Klein explains that bones stop growing when their growth plates close; muscle and body fat can continue developing after skeletal growth is complete. That helps explain why one source can put near-full size around a year while another allows more time for adult weight.

Physical size also differs from overall maturity. AAHA says most dogs complete physical and social maturation by 3–4 years, but that broader life-stage description should not be read as continued puppy growth until that age.

How to follow your Pitsky’s growth
- Keep a simple record. Note age, weight, and relevant observations from veterinary visits. A consistent weight log can make changes easier to notice, but a scale does not predict adult size or diagnose a growth problem.
- Use veterinary context, not a single breed average. Your veterinarian can interpret growth alongside the dog’s health and body condition. Ask about a marked change in growth, body condition, or health rather than trying to diagnose from age alone.
- Choose food for growth and expected size. AKC says puppy food should meet growth-and-development nutritional standards and that puppy-specific formulas are typically fed until around 11–14 months. Follow the food’s feeding directions and seek veterinary advice on the right amount and formula. Do not assume every Pitsky needs a large-breed formula solely because of the mix label; expected adult size and health matter.
- Keep activity moderate while bones and joints develop. AKC recommends regular, moderate exercise and cautions against prolonged jogging or road work before growth plates have fused, particularly for large and giant breeds. Ask your veterinarian for advice tailored to your dog, especially before high-impact sports or if your puppy is unusually large.
