What happened in Tyler, Texas
KLTV, attributing its account to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, reported that deputies responded to an animal call at a Northwood Drive residence at about 4:15 p.m. The first deputy found Hull in the backyard after she had been attacked by three dogs. When the deputy moved toward her, the dogs approached. He shot one dog, the other two retreated, and he removed Hull from the yard. Hull later died from her injuries. The deputy sustained minor injuries.
The sheriff’s office identified Hull on November 24 as a 23-year-old Tyler resident who was dog-sitting for the owners. A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy. Local reporting described the dogs as pit bulls, but the case should not be used to make blanket claims about a breed or about pet-sitting.
The reviewed sources do not establish what immediately preceded the attack, why the dogs attacked, whether any had previously attacked someone, or whether they had a legally established dangerous-dog designation. They also do not verify claims that Hull was letting the dogs back inside.

What happened to the dogs
On November 25, 2025, Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Andy Dunklin ordered the two surviving dogs euthanized after the owner waived a hearing. KLTV reported that the order directed the dogs be transferred to Smith County Animal Control or another authorized entity for humane destruction.
This was an animal-control disposition. It does not establish that the owners were criminally convicted or civilly liable.
What is known about possible charges
On November 26, a Smith County Sheriff’s Office spokesman told KLTV that investigators were working with the district attorney’s office to determine whether charges were necessary. That is the latest case-status update located in the reviewed research; it does not establish whether charges were later filed.

Family accounts, as reported by secondary coverage, described Hull as about six months from completing a bachelor’s degree in early-childhood education at the University of Texas at Tyler. A primary university record was not located in the research, so this education detail is attributed to family accounts and reporting.
What this case does—and does not—show about dog safety
The available reporting does not establish that Hull’s decision to pet-sit caused her death, or why the dogs attacked. This case alone cannot support general conclusions about a dog breed, multi-dog households, or pet sitters.

For anyone considering animal care work, it is reasonable to ask owners about each animal’s behavior history, handling needs, and emergency contacts before accepting responsibility. A sitter should decline a booking if they do not feel able to manage the animals safely. These are general precautions, not claims about what would have prevented this attack.
