Eleven breeds often described as long-nosed include the Oriental Shorthair, Chausie, Oriental Longhair, Highlander, Siamese, Turkish Van, Ragdoll, Savannah, Cornish Rex, Abyssinian, and Russian Blue. “Long-nosed” is a visual description, not a formally measured category: the roundup source says there is no exact measurement that separates a long nose from a typical one, and cats outside this list can have long-looking profiles too. Individual cats vary, so use the descriptions below as visual clues rather than a ranking.
What “long-nosed” means in this list
The 11 breeds are grouped by their appearance in Catster’s roundup, not by a shared breed standard or nose-length measurement. The source gives no measurement method or threshold, so the list cannot establish which breed has the longest nose. Some entries describe an elongated wedge-shaped head or a straight profile; others emphasize a distinctive muzzle or bridge. The Ragdoll is included with the source’s own caveat that its nose is less pronounced than those of other entries.

Breed standards can be more specific about a profile, but wording is breed- and registry-specific. For example, the Cat Fanciers’ Association Oriental page describes the nose as “long and straight. A continuation of the forehead with no break.” That standard should not be applied to the other breeds here. Registry recognition also varies: TICA’s breed-browse page lists 73 recognized breeds, a count belonging to that association rather than a universal tally across registries.

1. Oriental Shorthair
The Oriental Shorthair is described with a wedge-shaped head, tubular body, slender limbs, and a short, glossy coat. Catster characterizes the breed as intelligent, vocal, and athletic. Its profile is one of the clearer examples of the long, continuous wedge associated with Oriental cats.
#1 Best Overall
2. Chausie
The Chausie has a long-legged, athletic build. Catster describes its nose as medium to wide, with a somewhat broader area between the eyes, rather than presenting it as simply narrow and pointed. The source also describes the breed as a jungle-cat/domestic-cat hybrid; that description alone does not establish ownership rules or legal status, which can vary by location.
3. Oriental Longhair
Like the Oriental Shorthair, the Oriental Longhair is described with a wedge-shaped head and a slender, tubular body. Its coat is semi-long and silky, making coat length the most immediately visible distinction from its shorthaired counterpart. Catster describes both as active, intelligent, and vocal.
Rank #2
4. Highlander
Catster emphasizes a wide, long nose and boxy muzzle for the Highlander, a different look from the narrow wedge seen in several other entries. Curled ears add another recognizable feature. The article describes the breed as energetic and playful.
5. Siamese
The Siamese has a wedge-shaped head and a long, straight nose. Catster says the breed standard calls for the nose to continue from the forehead without a break. The same wording appears in CFA’s description of the Oriental profile, but standards should be checked for the relevant breed and registry rather than assumed to be interchangeable. Catster describes Siamese cats as intelligent, affectionate, and vocal.
Rank #3
6. Turkish Van
The Turkish Van is described as having a broad wedge-shaped head, a long nose, and a semi-long coat. Catster characterizes the breed as energetic and outgoing. Coat texture, color, and individual appearance vary, so the profile is only one part of identifying a cat.
7. Ragdoll
The Ragdoll is a less pronounced example in this roundup: Catster explicitly notes that its nose is not as long as those of the other listed breeds. The article describes Ragdolls as calm and friendly, but a breed-level description cannot predict every individual cat’s temperament.
8. Savannah
The Savannah is described as tall and lean, with a spotted coat and an elongated-looking profile. Catster notes serval/domestic ancestry and describes the breed as playful, with needs for space and stimulation. Those broad traits do not determine the needs or suitability of every individual cat.
9. Cornish Rex
The Cornish Rex is recognizable by its curly coat and egg-shaped head. Catster points to a prominent, curved bridge when viewed in profile, rather than a simple straight wedge. It describes the breed as people-oriented and affectionate.

10. Abyssinian
The Abyssinian has a slender build and wedge-shaped head, with Catster describing a long nose and high activity level. The article notes that interaction and access to toys can help prevent boredom. Interactive toys can be one optional way to add play, alongside other forms of attention and enrichment.
11. Russian Blue
The Russian Blue is described with a wedge-shaped head, large ears, slender legs, and a short, dense coat. Catster characterizes the breed as reserved or quiet with strangers while affectionate with familiar people. Its nose is part of a refined head profile rather than a basis for identifying a cat by itself.
Quick Recap
How to use these descriptions when identifying a cat
- Look at the whole profile: A wedge-shaped head, broad muzzle, or curved bridge can create different long-nose impressions. The descriptions do not share a single shape or measurement.
- Consider coat and build: Coat length, texture, body shape, ear position, and other features help distinguish breeds that may have similarly elongated profiles.
- Treat temperament as a tendency, not a guarantee: The activity and personality descriptions above are attributed to Catster and do not predict an individual cat’s behavior.
- Do not infer breed from appearance alone: A long-looking nose does not prove that a cat belongs to one of these breeds, and mixed-breed cats may have similar features.
