There are five iPhone dog-training apps I can recommend from current, identifiable App Store information; inventing two more to reach a seven-app list would be misleading. Dogo is the strongest all-rounder, Puppr excels at tricks and visual lessons, Pupford offers the best free starting point, Woofz focuses on routines and everyday behavior, and Zigzag is built around puppy schedules. Apps can organize practice, but they are not substitutes for a qualified force-free trainer or veterinary behaviorist when a dog is aggressive, panicked, dangerous, or suddenly unwell.

Quick comparison

App Best for Dogs Human support Free access iPhone requirement and price signal Main drawback
Dogo Structured all-purpose training Puppies and adults Video exam and trainer feedback Trial, then subscription U.S. listing showed a seven-day trial, monthly/annual plans and $299.99 lifetime; check checkout Subscription-heavy and some users report paywall or rigid completion concerns
Puppr Tricks and visual teaching Puppies and adults Live trainer chat with Premium Limited lessons U.S. listing showed $13.99 monthly and $99.99 annual Premium offers; prices vary Trick volume can distract from essential life skills
Pupford Free foundation course Especially puppies Community and paid courses 30-Day Perfect Pup Course and free resources Requires iOS 16.6 or later; Academy listed at $9.99 monthly, $39.99 six-month or $199.99 lifetime Broad commercial ecosystem can feel less focused
Woofz Habits, reminders and common problem behaviors Puppies and adults Primarily guided content Limited access before subscription Support page says iOS 17 or later; U.S. offers seen included $12.99 monthly, $29.99 quarterly, $29.99–$59.99 annual and $7.99–$9.99 weekly Variable offers and newer iOS requirement
Zigzag Day-by-day puppy guidance Puppies App Store advertises 24/7 puppy-coach chat Check current listing Listing captured during research required iOS 14 or later; verify current price and compatibility Less suitable for adult-dog behavior modification

Prices above are signals seen in the U.S. App Store, not guaranteed prices. Offers, taxes, regions and account eligibility can change; confirm the checkout screen and renewal terms. Prices were checked for this article on August 18, 2026.

How these rankings were decided

The useful question is not which app has the highest rating or the most videos. I compared curriculum structure, clarity about reinforcement methods, coverage of household problems, trainer access, free usability, iPhone compatibility, price transparency, progress tools and safety boundaries. App Store ratings are user opinions about the whole product, including billing and interface, not controlled evidence that training outcomes improve.

The five verified recommendations

Dogo: best overall for structured home training

Dogo lists more than 100 guided videos, personalized programs, daily recommendations, reminders, progress tracking, a clicker and whistle, potty support and video exams for trainer feedback. Programs cover puppy skills, house training, leash walking, recall, jumping, biting, chewing, barking, separation-related problems, obedience and tricks. Its listing also describes dog-profile management and improved multi-dog walk selection.

  • The spring wrist length : 16cm/6.3inches and can strength to 25cm/9.84inches.
  • Package include : Black + Blue,each color 1 pcs.

Start here: Download from the U.S. App Store, create each dog profile, choose one goal, watch the complete lesson, prepare rewards, and repeat the exercise until performance is reliable rather than marking it complete after one success. Dogo’s official site is dogo.app.

Best fit: Owners wanting a defined curriculum, potty logs or feedback without immediately booking a private appointment. Limitation: Paid access is central, and user reviews mention paywalls, reminders and binary lesson completion; those are anecdotal reports, not independently verified defects. A built-in clicker only helps when reward timing and consistency are good.

Puppr: best for tricks and visual lessons

Puppr provides more than 100 step-by-step video lessons, a clicker, reminders, progress tracking, multiple-dog support and positive-reinforcement instruction. It ranges from sit and stay to advanced tricks such as fetching a leash and sitting pretty. Its weekly puppy guide covers developmental stages and daily training, potty and sleep schedules. Premium adds live trainer chat and masterclasses; the Puppr site provides product information.

Best fit: Visual learners, enrichment-focused families and owners who want in-app questions answered. Limitation: The free tier does not unlock the full library, and “celebrity trainer” descriptions are marketing claims from the listing rather than an independent ranking.

Pupford: best free starting point

Pupford is listed as free for iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 16.6 or later. Its 30-Day Perfect Pup Course, associated with trainer Zak George, uses daily videos and exercises for obedience, house training, crate training, leash walking and socialization. It also offers desensitization sounds, Pupford Academy, a support community and paid topic courses.

Start here: Follow one day at a time, use tiny high-value rewards, and log whether the dog can perform outside the lesson environment. Academy prices shown in the U.S. listing were $9.99 monthly, $39.99 every six months or $199.99 lifetime; individual courses such as potty training, barking, recall and separation anxiety were shown at $19.99. Limitation: “Free” means the download and some content; paid Academy and courses remain. Pupford also sells treats, chews, leashes and toys through pupford.com, so it is not a completely vendor-neutral ecosystem.

Rank #3

Woofz: best for routines and everyday behavior

Woofz combines guided activities, video and audio lessons, a calendar, tips and a wellness dashboard. Its programs address barking, chewing, biting and other common problems. The support documentation says Apple devices require iOS 17 or later, while content is also available in a browser.

Start here: Set one daily reminder, choose a single behavior, and lower distractions whenever the dog misses three repetitions. Best fit: Owners who like habit tracking and combined activity and training records. Limitation: Displayed subscription offers vary considerably, so do not label Woofz cheapest or most expensive without a same-day comparison. Its modules are guidance, not treatment for aggression or clinical anxiety.

Zigzag: best for puppy-specific daily guidance

Zigzag presents a staged puppy-training program and puppy-coach support. Its App Store listing advertises 24/7 live chat with puppy coaches. The listing captured for this article required iOS 14 or later, but check the current listing before installing. Zigzag’s own comparison article, best dog training apps for puppies, is useful for understanding its market position, not independent proof of ranking.

Rank #4
Educator Dog Training Finger Clicker with Audible Sound for Positive Reinforcement, Behavior and Obedience Pet Trainer, Teal
  • MANUAL AUDIBLE TRAINING CLICKER: Produces one consistent click sound that can be used as a marker cue when paired with rewards. The clicker does NOT provide commands or instructions to the dog and contains no electronic functions.
  • ONE CLICK SOUND – FOUR VOLUME LEVELS: The clicker does NOT produce four different sounds. Three built-in baffle holes provide four volume levels. Cover or uncover the baffle holes until the desired click volume is reached.
  • COMPACT PLASTIC CLICKER: This is a small handheld clicker constructed from plastic. Review the product images and compact design before purchase to confirm the size and construction meet your expectations.
  • 5-INCH VELCRO FINGER STRAP: Includes an approximately 5-inch adjustable Velcro strap designed to position the clicker on the user's finger or hand for access during training. The strap is worn by the user, NOT the pet.
  • INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE TO SOUND MAY VARY: Begin with fewer baffle holes open for a lower click level and adjust gradually. Individual dogs and other animals may respond differently to audible cues. Reduce the volume or discontinue use if the animal shows discomfort or fear.

Start here: Enter the puppy’s age and routine, follow the suggested daily priority, and ask coaches specific questions with a short description of what happened. Best fit: New puppy owners overwhelmed by what to teach first. Limitation: Puppy sequencing may not address an adult rescue dog’s fear, reactivity or established habits, and “24/7” describes advertised availability, not guaranteed instant replies from a veterinary behaviorist.

Choose by your actual goal

  • New puppy schedule: Zigzag for age-based progression; Pupford for a free 30-day foundation.
  • One broad household curriculum: Dogo.
  • Tricks and enrichment: Puppr, while still practicing recall, leash walking and settling.
  • Potty training: Dogo’s tracking or Pupford’s course, paired with supervision and frequent outdoor trips.
  • Barking, chewing or biting: Woofz or Dogo for introductory exercises; escalate when risk or fear is involved.
  • Adult or rescue dog: Prefer flexible foundations—name response, predictable routines, consent-based handling and loose-leash walking—over puppy sleep schedules.
  • Professional observation: A live coaching service or local qualified trainer is more appropriate than another self-guided app when you need someone to see the dog’s behavior in context.

How to train effectively with any app

  1. Create the dog profile and select one primary goal.
  2. Watch the entire lesson before attempting it.
  3. Prepare rewards the dog genuinely values and remove avoidable distractions.
  4. Train in short sessions, ending before frustration or disengagement.
  5. Mark the behavior immediately, then reward.
  6. If the dog struggles, increase distance from distractions, use better rewards, shorten the session or return to an easier step.
  7. Track reliability, duration, distance and distraction—not merely a completed screen.
  8. Practice in different rooms, with different people and on different surfaces only after the behavior works reliably at home.
  9. Train dogs separately at first when you have more than one; simultaneous sessions can create competition and confusion.

When an app is not enough

Stop the exercise and seek qualified, force-free help for bites or attempted bites, aggression, severe resource guarding, panic when left alone, self-injury, or behavior that worsens despite reducing difficulty. Sudden regression, loss of appetite, painful movement, diarrhea or unusual urination also warrants veterinary attention. Do not punish growling, fear, defensive behavior or accidents. Apps may offer introductory separation or reactivity exercises, but serious cases often require an individualized plan and veterinary input.

Subscriptions, trials and privacy checks

  • Read whether a free trial auto-renews and cancel through iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions before the renewal date if needed.
  • Compare monthly, annual, course-by-course and lifetime terms; “lifetime” means access under the vendor’s terms, not a guarantee the service will operate forever.
  • Confirm whether access continues through the paid period after cancellation and whether it is tied to your account.
  • Review App Store privacy disclosures for collection of dog profiles, photos, videos, location, usage and purchase data before uploading media.
  • Check the App Store listing rather than assuming a website price, because Apple offers can differ by country, account and promotion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dog-training apps effective for every behavior problem?

They can organize reward-based practice for everyday skills, but aggression, bite risk, severe fear, panic when alone and sudden behavior changes need professional assessment rather than app-only treatment.

Can I train two dogs at the same time in one app?

Several apps support multiple dog profiles, but teach dogs separately at first so each can focus and receive timely reinforcement.

What should I do if my dog keeps failing a lesson?

Repeat the lesson, reduce distractions, use higher-value rewards, shorten the session and lower the difficulty. Progress only when the behavior is reliable, not after one successful attempt.
