The best double cat carrier depends on whether your cats can share a confined space, how much room and weight the carrier supports, and where you are taking them. For cats that stay comfortable together, a shared carrier may be practical; a divider or two single carriers gives cats more separation. For airline travel, check the operating airline’s current rules before choosing any carrier.
How to choose a double carrier for your cats
Do not rely on a product label that says “for two cats.” Measure both cats, check their combined weight against the exact model’s published limit, and make sure they can move comfortably inside. Catster’s guidance is that each cat should be able to sit, stand, lie down, and turn around. A carrier that bows under the combined load can make the trip uncomfortable.

Choose shared space, a divider, or two carriers
- Shared interior: Consider it for cats that are comfortable together, including when confined. Familiarity at home does not guarantee that both cats will remain calm when stressed.
- Divider: A divider lets cats travel in one unit while keeping their spaces separate. Check whether it is secure and whether each side provides enough room.
- Two single carriers: Use separate carriers if either cat needs distance, or if the trip’s rules or handling needs make one large carrier impractical.
Check construction and handling
Look beyond capacity. Check zipper security or door latches, bottom support, ventilation, loading openings, and how easily the carrier can be cleaned. A large top opening can help when loading a reluctant cat. Also account for the combined load of both cats and the carrier; one carrier may be simpler to manage, but it can be bulky and heavy.

A carrier for a vet visit, a stroller for a walk, and an enclosure for a hotel stay are different products. Do not assume a stroller or a roomy travel enclosure is designed to be lifted with cats inside or secured in a car.

The following options are based on product descriptions and reviewer observations in the Cats.com guide, last updated March 24, 2026, and Catster’s guide, updated September 15, 2026. These are not independent test results from Animalso. Product listings and specifications can vary by model or size, so confirm the exact item before buying.

How the main options differ
The PawHut and One For Pets designs offer configuration flexibility, but the Cats.com reviewer reported specific support or zipper concerns for both. The Pet Life model is a shared-space candidate, but its reported bulk may matter when carrying both cats. For walks, the Giantex is a stroller rather than a hand-carried double carrier. The Necoichi is for containment at a destination, not transport while occupied, while the SturdiBag is better suited to kittens or a small cat.

Catster also describes the Petsfit Solid Expandable Carrier as expanding at both ends without a center divider. Expansion creates more room but does not provide separate compartments. Verify the exact model’s measurements and capacity before use.

There is no universal cabin approval for double carriers. Petmate’s June 12, 2026 buyer’s guide says requirements vary by airline and by cabin versus cargo. Check the operating airline’s current carrier dimensions and pet rules before booking; a carrier that fits two cats at home may not meet cabin requirements.

Katelynn Sobus, author of the Cats.com guide, writes: “To meet the size requirement for taking your cats on a flight, especially in cabin, you might need to buy two single cat carriers.” That is editorial guidance, not an airline rule. Confirm what the airline permits for your itinerary.
Individual product claims also matter. Catit’s official PIXI Mio page says that this single-cat, short-trip carrier is not suitable for airplane travel. It is not a double-carrier recommendation; it illustrates why you should check the manufacturer’s guidance and airline rules for the precise model.

Questions to settle before you buy
- Will both cats fit? Measure each cat and check the carrier’s interior dimensions as well as its stated combined-weight limit.
- Can they tolerate sharing? If either cat needs distance when stressed, choose a divider or two carriers rather than assuming a shared space will work.
- Can you load and carry it safely? Consider the openings, bottom support, zipper or latch security, cleaning, bulk, and the weight of both cats plus the carrier.
- Is it for transport or containment? A stroller and a destination enclosure do not necessarily function like a carrier you can lift or secure for a car trip.
- Does the trip have specific rules? For air travel, consult the operating airline before buying or booking.
