VēRUS offers several distinct cat-food formats, and the labels differ in ingredients, calories, moisture, and life-stage statements. Its Virtue dry formula lists chicken meal first and guarantees at least 33% protein; its Chicken & Liver pâté guarantees at least 9% protein as fed. Those percentages cannot be compared directly because the dry food has a maximum 10% moisture while the pâté has a maximum 78%. The manufacturer’s product pages provide useful label details, but they are not independent feeding trials or individualized veterinary assessments.
VēRUS cat food at a glance
The manufacturer’s pages reviewed here cover one dry food, two pâtés, and three shredded-in-gravy dinners. They are not interchangeable recipes: ingredients, calorie density, and stated life-stage suitability vary by product.

What the ingredient lists and guaranteed analyses show
Virtue dry food
The listed ingredients begin chicken meal, chickpeas, dried potato, chicken fat, egg product, and lentils. Its guaranteed analysis lists protein at a minimum of 33%, fat at a minimum of 20%, fiber at a maximum of 4%, and moisture at a maximum of 10%. The page lists 3,705 kcal/kg and 470 kcal per cup. VēRUS describes the recipe as grain-free and says it includes freeze-dried live probiotics and no corn, wheat, soy, or sugars; these are manufacturer claims, not independently verified outcomes. See the VēRUS Feline Virtue product page.

Guaranteed analysis lists protein at a minimum of 9%, fat at a minimum of 5%, fiber at a maximum of 1.5%, moisture at a maximum of 78%, and taurine at a minimum of 0.05%. The manufacturer lists 1,091 kcal/kg and 170 kcal per 5.5 oz can, and says it meets AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages. See the Chicken & Liver pâté label details.
Turkey, Chicken & Fish pâté
Turkey, chicken broth, chicken, chicken liver, and ocean fish lead the ingredient list. The page lists minimum protein of 9%, minimum fat of 5%, maximum fiber of 1.5%, and 1,136 kcal/kg or 177 kcal per 5.5 oz can. It lists a 24-can pack. Its retrieved page did not state a life-stage claim, so check the current packaging for that information. See the Turkey, Chicken & Fish pâté product page.

Shredded dinners in gravy
The shredded recipes are lower-calorie cans than the listed pâtés, but can size differs: each shredded can is 2.8 oz, compared with 5.5 oz for the pâtés. Their retrieved product pages state Adult Maintenance.
- Chicken & Turkey: chicken and chicken broth lead, followed by turkey; 958 kcal/kg or 75 kcal per 2.8 oz can. Manufacturer details.
- Whitefish: whitefish and fish broth lead; 795 kcal/kg or 62 kcal per 2.8 oz can. Manufacturer details.
- Chicken & Duck: chicken, chicken broth, and duck lead; 970 kcal/kg or 76 kcal per 2.8 oz can. The page showed this 24-can pack out of stock at the time captured; that does not establish current availability. Manufacturer details.
How to compare the nutrition numbers fairly
Guaranteed-analysis percentages are stated as fed, meaning they include the food’s water. The Virtue dry formula’s maximum moisture is 10%, while Chicken & Liver pâté’s is 78%; comparing their 33% and 9% minimum protein figures at face value makes the dry food appear more protein-dense partly because it contains much less water. A dry-matter comparison requires converting the label analysis using moisture and nutrient values. The pages give maximum moisture and guaranteed minimums or maximums, not a complete nutrient profile suitable for a precise comparison of every nutrient.

Calories also need context. A 170-kcal pâté can is larger than a 75-kcal shredded can, so calories per can alone do not indicate which recipe is more calorie-dense by weight or which amount your cat should eat. Compare the listed kcal/kg when assessing energy density, and use the actual package label if its figures differ from the product page.
Which VēRUS formula might fit your cat?
- For a dry format: Virtue is the dry option in the reviewed pages. Check its chicken and fish ingredients against known sensitivities and confirm its life-stage suitability on the current package.
- For pâté: Chicken & Liver and Turkey, Chicken & Fish have similar listed guaranteed-analysis minima, but different ingredient order and calorie declarations. Chicken & Liver has the explicit all-life-stages statement in the retrieved page.
- For shredded texture and gravy: The three shredded dinners have Adult Maintenance statements on their retrieved pages. Their calories per can range from 62 to 76, with can size listed as 2.8 oz.
- For a kitten or a cat with a medical condition: Do not infer suitability from texture or a product’s name. Confirm the nutritional-adequacy statement and feeding plan with your veterinarian, particularly when managing a diagnosed condition.
Feeding guidance and practical checks
The pâté pages give broad guidance of an average 1 ounce of food per pound of body weight, with twice that amount for kittens. This is manufacturer guidance, not an individualized calorie prescription, and the listed formulas differ in calories. Use the feeding directions on the specific current package as a starting point, monitor your cat’s body condition and weight, and ask a veterinarian to tailor portions to age, activity, health, and whether the food is fed alone or alongside other foods.
Rank #4
- Human-grade meat
- High Protein
- High-moisture content - abundant in gravy
- Can be served as a dry food topping or as a standalone meal
Before choosing a recipe, check the package for:
- Its nutritional-adequacy statement and the life stage it covers.
- Ingredients relevant to your cat’s diagnosed allergy or known sensitivity.
- Calories per can, cup, or kilogram, then portion by calories rather than assuming equal serving sizes.
- Current package size, feeding directions, and product availability.
- Whether a transition is needed when changing foods; ask your veterinarian for advice if your cat has a history of digestive problems or a prescribed diet.
What is and is not established about VēRUS
The manufacturer pages establish the listed ingredients, guaranteed analyses, calories, and some life-stage statements for the specific formulas above. They do not establish independent clinical benefits, how an individual cat will respond, or current availability at a particular retailer. A secondary review by Cat Food Advisor says it selected Virtue to represent the dry line and reports no recall history, but that is not a current regulator finding or a comprehensive current recall check. For safety updates, check the relevant regulator and manufacturer notices rather than treating that secondary report as definitive. Read Cat Food Advisor’s VēRUS dry-food review.
