The text covers evolution, conservation and human influence on breeding. It also addresses the science of cuteness, including material connected to neuroscientist Professor Morten Kringelbach. How Flach made the photographs
In a 2025 interview with Amateur Photographer, Flach said the project took two years and involved travel to Japan, Canada and Borneo. Domestic-cat sessions took place both in his studio and in owners’ homes, where he used makeshift setups. He said he used a Canon EOS R5 for most of the project.
The book includes QR codes that link to behind-the-scenes footage. Flach explained that this was a way to respond to doubts about striking images: “There’s been an erosion of trust in images.” The footage offers a look at the photographic process behind cats whose appearance might otherwise seem hard to believe.
