If you’re trying to place two kittens who are about nine weeks old, start by contacting a local animal shelter or rescue. They can advise you on ownership checks, local found-animal rules, medical care, and whether the kittens should be placed together. If you found them, do not rehome them until you have checked for an owner and followed local reporting requirements.
How do I find a home for two 9-week-old kittens?
“Place” can mean adopting the kittens yourself, finding an adopter, arranging temporary foster care, or asking a shelter or rescue to help with intake and placement. Which option is appropriate depends on whether the kittens have an owner, their health, local rules, and whether an organization can accept them.
Call a nearby shelter or rescue before bringing the kittens in. Intake policies and capacity vary, and calling first lets the organization tell you what to do. ASPCA guidance says kittens over two months old can be placed in foster care while receiving needed medical care and waiting for adoptive homes. If you found the kittens
- Check for an identification tag and ask a shelter, rescue, or veterinary clinic to scan for a microchip.
- Ask your local animal-control agency or shelter what found-animal reports, notice periods, or other steps are required before rehoming.
- Contact a local shelter or rescue for help understanding your options.
ASPCA describes two months as an age when kittens generally eat on their own, weigh around two pounds, and have good coordination. Those are broad age indicators, not a health assessment or a measurement of this pair. A veterinarian or shelter should evaluate their condition and care needs.

If either kitten is ill or injured
Seek help promptly from a veterinary clinic, shelter, or rescue. Call first to confirm the facility is open and able to accept the kittens, as ASPCA advises. If you are unsure how urgent a symptom is, ask a veterinary professional rather than relying on age alone.
Can two kittens be adopted together?
Possibly, but the fact that they are together does not establish that they are bonded or that they must be placed as a pair. Ask the shelter or rescue about any records they have, how each kitten behaves, and the organization’s placement policy. If you are considering adopting both, discuss whether you can meet both kittens’ needs as they grow.

What should I prepare before the kittens arrive?
Set up a quiet, secure room where the kittens can settle in at their own pace. Let them hide if they choose, and give them time to explore rather than expecting them to feel at home immediately. Best Friends recommends a quiet safe room for the first few days.

- Kitten-formula food, preferably the same food they are already eating, plus fresh water and food and water bowls.
- A litter box and unscented litter in a quiet, accessible place; scoop it daily.
- A carrier for safe transport.
- Bedding or a blanket, and a hiding place such as a cardboard box.
- Toys, including a wand toy for interactive play, and a scratching post or pad.
Ask what food the kittens have been eating. If you need to change it, Best Friends suggests starting with one-quarter new food and three-quarters old food, then increasing the new food over a week. A sudden change can upset a kitten’s stomach and cause diarrhea. ASPCA advises feeding food formulated for kittens and keeping clean, fresh water available; kittens are usually fully weaned by eight to ten weeks and should generally stay on kitten-formula food until maturity, around one year. Ask a veterinarian to tailor diet advice to their age, health, and activity. Do not assume they need milk replacer; ASPCA describes it for specific situations such as orphaning or inadequate milk supply, with veterinary feeding advice. Ask the shelter, rescue, or veterinarian to review any medical records and set a follow-up plan for each kitten. Vaccination recommendations depend on age and health, so an individual schedule should come from a veterinary professional.
