Is Ella Gene safe now, and where is she?
The official release confirms that Ella Gene was in the county shelter’s care for safekeeping after the 2020 incident. It does not say what happened to her afterward, so it cannot establish her present location or condition.
An iHeartDogs article published October 6, 2026, says Ella Gene remained at the shelter and could not be fostered or adopted until a court decision. That is the article’s claim; it is not independently confirmed by the sheriff’s release or a current shelter record among the sources available here. Her present status therefore remains unverified.

What happened to the man arrested?
The sheriff’s office said Brewer was arrested and charged with causing pain and suffering to a dog, a felony violation of Florida Statute 828.12, then transported to Walton County Jail. An arrest and charge are not proof of guilt. The available sources do not establish whether the case went to trial, was resolved by a plea, or was otherwise disposed of.
The release attributes two remarks to Brewer during the encounter: “I don’t have time for you” and “tell me who told you so I can beat him up.” These are quotations as reported by deputies in the release, not independently verified audio.
