The current VOHC cat list names four consumer-available edible treat products: three with a tartar claim and one with claims for both plaque and tartar. The available evidence does not establish a ranked “best eight.” This guide compares those four and explains how to assess four additional dental-branded options without presenting them as equally supported.
What counts as a “best” dental cat treat?

How to compare the listed treats
Choose by the endpoint you want to address
Three of the listed treats—Feline Greenies, Whiskas Dentabites, and Purina DentaLife—carry a VOHC tartar claim. Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diet Dental Bites carries claims for plaque and tartar. Do not treat the claims as interchangeable: read the listing for the exact product, and avoid inferring an endpoint that is not named there.
Use flavor and texture as practical tie-breakers

Check the exact product, not just the brand
A brand may sell multiple treats and oral-care products. Match the full product name—and, where relevant, the variant—on the package to the VOHC entry. A general “dental” label does not by itself establish a VOHC claim.
Why this guide does not rank eight supported treats

If you are considering another product marketed for dental care, check its exact name against the live VOHC list. If it is not listed there, do not assume it has the corresponding VOHC claim or equivalent evidence. These are different formats, not additional treats, and should not be counted as such. A toothbrush or wipe involves direct oral care; a water additive is used in drinking water; and a dental diet is food rather than a snack. Review the exact product and claim on the current list, then ask your veterinarian which format is appropriate for your cat.
