Its novel-protein and sensitivity language describes the manufacturer’s positioning, not proof that a recipe will prevent or treat food allergy—or that a picky cat will accept it. To assess a specific Addiction food, check the exact package for its animal-protein sources, format, nutritional adequacy statement, and life-stage designation.
What Addiction cat foods are available?
Addiction’s US catalogs list multiple cat-food recipes, including Viva La Venison, Wild Kangaroo Feast, Salmon Bleu, Duck Royale Entrée, and Chicken Supreme Recipe. The catalogs cover both dry and wet products, but current listings and stock indicators can vary. Check the product listing and package for the exact formula you are considering.
The company describes its dry foods as rapidly air-dried and features salmon, duck, venison, and chicken recipes. That describes the brand’s product range and positioning; it does not establish that Addiction foods are nutritionally superior to other brands. See the official US cat-food catalog and the brand’s dry cat foods page.
What does “novel protein” mean for a cat?
A novel protein is an animal-protein source a particular cat has not previously eaten. Whether a protein is novel therefore depends on the cat’s dietary history, not just the recipe name. Addiction describes its venison and kangaroo offerings as novel-protein or sensitivity-oriented choices. The company presents Wild Kangaroo Feast as a limited-ingredient, grain-free formula with kangaroo as its sole animal protein, and describes Wild Islands Forest Meat as featuring venison. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent clinical findings. See the brand’s US dry-food catalog, complete-and-balanced cat-food catalog, and Wild Islands for Cats page.

A cat may still react to a food marketed as novel or tolerate a different recipe better; the name alone cannot establish an individual response. If you suspect a food allergy or your veterinarian recommends an elimination diet, treat that as a veterinary plan rather than choosing a retail food on marketing claims alone.
How to evaluate an Addiction recipe
- Identify every animal-protein source. Read the exact package label rather than relying on a recipe name or a “single-protein” description. A cat’s prior food history helps determine whether a source is genuinely novel for that individual.
- Confirm the format. Addiction sells dry and wet foods. Choose a format that fits your cat and feeding routine, then compare like with like rather than assuming a dry-food claim applies to a wet recipe.
- Read the nutritional adequacy statement. Find the statement on the package and note the life stage it covers. The American Association of Feline Practitioners’ 2021 eConference proceedings explain that this statement is important when evaluating a food, while also cautioning that a feeding trial does not guarantee adequacy in every circumstance. The proceedings also warn against assessing food quality from the ingredient list alone. Read the AAFP proceedings.
- Check life-stage suitability and your cat’s needs. Make sure the package’s designation fits your cat’s life stage and any veterinarian-directed dietary requirements. The brand’s complete-and-balanced cat foods page identifies Salmon Bleu, Viva La Venison, Duck Royale Entrée, and Chicken Supreme Recipe, but the package for the exact product remains the practical place to verify its statement.
The available official pages do not provide a complete independent nutrient comparison across recipes. A comparison based only on ingredient marketing or a novel-protein claim would leave important questions unanswered.

Addiction offers a range of recipes, including venison- and kangaroo-focused options that the manufacturer positions for cats with sensitivities. That positioning may make a recipe worth discussing with your veterinarian, but it is not evidence of allergy treatment, guaranteed tolerance, or picky-cat appeal. Judge the specific food by its label, adequacy statement, life-stage fit, and match to your cat’s dietary history—not by “premium” or “novel protein” language alone.
