For most cat owners, the practical questions are whether their cat will eat the food, whether the specific package carries a complete and balanced statement for the cat’s life stage, and whether the dry-versus-canned trade-off suits the cat’s needs.
What Artemis sells right now
Artemis groups its cat food into two lines on its official dry-cat-food page. The shop catalog adds a set of Osopure canned recipes. The table below separates what each source states. Product lists and sizes change, so confirm them on the package or the current listing before buying.

Two points limit how far you can generalize. First, the Osopure canned line appears only in the shop catalog and the review, so a retailer may stock some recipes and not others. Second, the Osopure dry formula named in the review is a salmon-and-garbanzo recipe. The sources do not confirm that Osopure dry food comes in other flavors. When you shop, search for the exact product name, such as “Artemis Fresh Mix Feline dry cat food” or “Artemis Osopure canned cat food,” rather than assuming every formula is available everywhere.
What the independent review concludes
Cats.com scored Artemis 7.6/10 overall, equal to 46 out of 60 points and a grade of B+. It scored the brand across six categories: species appropriateness, ingredient quality, product variety, price, customer experience, and recall history. The score reflects Cats.com’s editorial weighting. The dry and canned figures use different units, so they cannot be compared directly. To compare calorie density, convert each product to the same unit using the calorie statement on its package, or divide the calories per feeding by the weight of food in that feeding. Also note that a cup of kibble and a can of wet food differ greatly in weight, so the per-cup figure says little about a cat’s daily intake by itself.

Dry versus canned: what the trade-off looks like
The review’s central comparison is between formats, and the answer depends on what matters most to you.

If you are weighing these options for a particular cat, your veterinarian can take into account the cat’s weight, age, activity, and any health conditions. The review does not make those individual assessments.
What customers report
The review describes a limited number of customer reviews. Most of those comments are positive, and it includes one negative example in which cats refused the Fresh Mix food. These are anecdotes from a small set of customers, not a representative survey, and they cannot show how most cats respond.

“I bought this food because it was touted as superior to what they had been eating. It was certainly priced as a better, more premium food than what they’ve been eating. Unfortunately, neither one will go near it. So, I’ll be donating almost the entire bag to my local shelter and continue to feed them a dry food I know they will eat.”
The most useful lesson in that account is the cost of a failed switch. A food that a cat refuses can waste a large bag, so buy the smallest size you can first.
The “complete and balanced” claim
Artemis Pet Food Company’s FAQ states: “Yes, all of our formulas are carefully crafted to meet or exceed the nutritional standards established by the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) for complete and balanced pet food.” This is the company’s own statement. It is not an AAFCO endorsement of the brand, and it is not an independent test result. The sources reviewed for this article did not include a laboratory analysis of Artemis formulas.
To check the claim for a specific product, read the package label rather than the website. Look for:

- A life-stage statement that matches your cat. A food labeled for all life stages can be used for kittens and adults, but the label should say so.
- The product name, formula, and net weight. Those details matter when the same brand has several recipes with similar names.
The adequacy statement applies to the formula on that package. If the recipe or label changes, the earlier review does not automatically apply.

Cats.com and CatFoodAdvisor each reported no known Artemis recalls as of their reviews. Those are secondary reports with dates attached. They do not prove that no recall has ever occurred, and they do not rule out a notice issued after those reviews were published. Before you buy, check current recall notices from Artemis and from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and look up the specific product name and lot code on the package if you need to confirm a particular bag.
How to switch a cat to Artemis food
Artemis recommends a gradual transition over 7 to 10 days, starting with 25% Artemis food and increasing the proportion each day. This is company guidance. Use it as a starting framework, and adjust it if your cat has trouble adapting.
- Start with about one-quarter Artemis food mixed with three-quarters of the current food.
- Each day, increase the Artemis share a little, so that the full switch takes 7 to 10 days.
- Watch appetite, stool quality, and vomiting at each step. If the cat stops eating or has digestive upset, return to the previous ratio and wait before advancing.
- Once the cat eats the new food fully, keep the old food out of the bowl to avoid mixed feeding by mistake.
A cat with a medical condition, a history of food sensitivity, or a weight problem should not switch foods based on a review alone. Ask your veterinarian before the change, especially if your cat is on a prescription diet or has kidney, urinary, diabetes, or digestive issues.

The natural search term for buying the physical product is “Artemis cat food,” but retailer listings change. The review’s links to Amazon listings for selected Artemis products show where those products were listed when the review was written. They do not confirm current stock, price, or package size. Before you order, confirm the exact product name, the bag or can size, whether the listing is sold directly or by a third-party seller, and the current price per feeding.
When comparing prices, divide the price by the number of feedings the package provides, not by weight alone. Dry food is often cheaper per calorie, while canned food often costs more per feeding, which matches the review’s conclusion.
