ASPCA Vaccine Clinics: How Preventive Visits Can Support Pet Health

ASPCA vaccine clinics offer vaccinations in a broader preventive-care setting. Their stories and service counts show reach and examples, but not a measured long-term health effect caused by the clinics.

ASPCA vaccine clinics can connect dogs and cats with vaccines, examinations and other basic veterinary services. An exam during a vaccine visit may also prompt follow-up for a separate health problem. The ASPCA reports substantial numbers of animals served and describes individual cases, but its published materials do not establish a measured, long-term health effect caused by the clinics.

What an ASPCA vaccine clinic visit can include

In a September 25, 2025 account, the ASPCA said its community clinics in Queens, the Bronx and Brooklyn, as well as its Miami clinic, offer vaccine services for dogs and cats. The story described those clinics as open on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and said mobile vaccine clinics are held periodically in New York City. Because schedules, locations and eligibility can change, check the ASPCA’s current information before making plans. ASPCA clinic story.

Vaccination is part of a broader care setting, not necessarily the only service available. The 2025 story lists physical examinations, in-house diagnostics, microchips, spay/neuter surgery, humane euthanasia and treatment for minor illnesses. The ASPCA says most services are free for eligible clients; that does not mean every service or every client qualifies.

Can an exam during a vaccine visit uncover another problem?

Yes. A veterinary examination can reveal a concern that warrants additional testing, treatment or referral, although an exam cannot guarantee that every condition will be found. The ASPCA’s story illustrates this possibility with two cases.

Luna: a route to spay surgery

Luna, a cat, received an examination during a vaccine-clinic visit and was approved for spay surgery, according to the ASPCA. The account shows how a routine visit can lead to another preventive-care service; it does not say how often this occurs across clinic patients. ASPCA account of Luna.

Soki: a serious condition noticed at a routine visit

The ASPCA reports that staff noticed a life-threatening abdominal wall hernia in Soki, a dog, during a routine vaccine visit. The account says follow-up surgery treated the hernia and pyometra. This is an example of a potentially important finding, not evidence of a typical detection rate or a population-level health outcome. ASPCA account of Soki.

What the reported service numbers do—and do not—show

ASPCA reports show substantial program reach, but their totals cover different periods, locations and types of care. They are counts of animals served, not counts of vaccine-only visits or proof of improved long-term health.

Reported figure What it covers How to interpret it
More than 150,000 cats and dogs served since 2019 Five ASPCA Community Veterinary Clinics, as reported in July 2026; the total includes the Los Angeles clinic. A cumulative program service count, not a vaccine-only count or a health-outcome measure. ASPCA, July 2026.
More than 35,000 animals served during 2024 ASPCA community clinics in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens plus mobile clinics; published in the ASPCA’s 2025 annual report. Services included accessible and affordable veterinary care, preventive services and spay/neuter. A one-year, multi-service count, not a vaccination total. ASPCA annual reports.
More than 100,000 cats and dogs served since 2019 The first four ASPCA Community Veterinary Clinics, as stated in the September 2025 story. An older cumulative total for fewer clinics; the July 2026 five-clinic figure is the more current program-scale figure. ASPCA, September 2025.
More than 109,000 animals received veterinary care in 2025 The ASPCA hospital and clinics organization-wide, as reported in 2026. Not specific to community or vaccine clinics. ASPCA annual reports.
79,000 spay/neuter surgeries in 2025 ASPCA stationary and mobile clinics, as reported in 2026. A surgery count, not a vaccine-clinic count. ASPCA annual reports.

The September 2025 story also gave location-level figures through August 30, 2025: 1,813 pet owners served in Queens, 2,648 in the Bronx and 2,942 in Brooklyn. It explicitly described these as all visits, not vaccine-only visits. The same story reported 2025-to-date totals of 11,329 pets seen in Queens, 10,277 in Brooklyn and 6,746 in the Bronx. Those figures have a specific cutoff and service scope; they should not be presented as current annual totals. ASPCA, September 2025.

What veterinary guidance says about vaccination

Vaccines are an important part of preventive veterinary care, but the right choices depend on the animal. The American Animal Hospital Association’s canine guidance distinguishes core vaccines from additional vaccines chosen in light of a dog’s lifestyle and exposure risk; the guidance page notes a 2024 update. Recommendations should come from a veterinarian familiar with the dog rather than a one-size-fits-all schedule. AAHA canine vaccination guidelines.

AAHA and the American Association of Feline Practitioners likewise describe feline vaccination protocols as individualized according to the cat’s characteristics and risk. Their guidance recommends complete, accurate vaccine records. A paper record book can be one way to organize dates and follow-up information, but it is only an organizational aid—not a substitute for veterinary advice or the clinic’s official records. What “long-term impact” can reasonably mean here

The ASPCA says its clinics expand access to preventive and basic veterinary care. Its accounts describe how an examination and access to follow-up services can lead to additional care, while reported service totals show the number of animals reached under the stated definitions. These are meaningful indicators of activity and access, but they are not a direct measure of long-term health.

The reviewed ASPCA reports and stories do not provide a controlled or longitudinal evaluation comparing clinic participants with a comparison group, or quantify clinic-attributable changes in vaccine-preventable disease, mortality or other long-term outcomes. The evidence therefore supports saying the clinics offer preventive-care access and that visits can surface other needs; it does not support claiming a proven or quantified long-term health effect caused by the clinics.

The ASPCA’s quoted statements about improving health and welfare, and about serious problems found during routine vaccine clinics, are the organization’s own descriptions. They provide context for its goals and experience, not an independent evaluation of outcomes. ASPCA clinic story.

How to find the right clinic information for your pet

Before visiting, confirm details with the clinic serving your area. In particular, ask about:

  • Current location, hours and whether appointments are required.
  • Which animals and services are eligible, and whether a fee applies to the service your pet needs.
  • Whether the visit includes an examination and what to do if your pet needs diagnostics or follow-up care.
  • Which vaccine records or other information to bring.

Those details can vary by location and change over time; the 2025 schedule and service description are not a guarantee of current availability.
