Its main trade-off is straightforward: you handle pads and purpose-made pellet refills instead of ordinary litter, and your cat must accept the pellet surface and the box’s access. Purina promotes Breeze as low-dust and low-tracking, but the available evidence does not establish that it outperforms conventional litter in controlled comparisons.
How the Tidy Cats Breeze system works
The starter kit has a perforated upper tray, Zeolite pellets, and a lower drawer that holds an absorbent Ion pad. Urine passes through the pellets and tray to the pad; solid waste remains on top for scooping. Purina says its pellets do not absorb urine and help dehydrate solid waste. This is a different disposal routine from a box of absorbent or clumping litter: you scoop solids from the top and remove the pad from below.

Purina describes Breeze as “99.9% dust-free” and designed to reduce tracking. Those are manufacturer claims, not findings from an independent controlled comparison. The available sources do not establish comparative results for dust, tracking, odor, leakage, durability, or cat acceptance versus ordinary litter.
Which Breeze model may fit your cat?
Purina lists three formats: Original, Covered, and Bigger Breeze XL. The XL is intended for larger cats or multi-cat homes, but the right fit also depends on your cat’s preferences and ability to enter and leave comfortably. A covered box may suit some households better than an open one, but the supplied product information does not establish that every cat prefers either style.

- SOLID WASTE SEPARATION: Specially designed mess-minimizing Zeolite cat litter pellets capture solid waste letting urine pass through to the absorbent Ion urine pads below
Purina says Breeze is designed for kittens aged four months and older. For kittens younger than four months, it recommends non-clumping litter. Purina says senior cats can use Breeze, while cautioning that a cat’s nontraditional litter preference or mobility limitations may make the transition or access more difficult. Consider the individual cat’s mobility, comfort with pellets, and willingness to use the box rather than assuming age or model alone determines suitability.
What upkeep does Breeze require?
Daily solid-waste removal
Solid waste stays on the pellet layer, so scoop it from the upper tray as needed. Follow Purina’s setup directions: add one 3.5-pound bag of pellets, which Purina describes as a one-month supply, and place a fresh pad in the drawer.

Pad changes and pellet refills
Purina says a pad can hold up to three cups and neutralize ammonia odor for up to seven days for one cat. That is the manufacturer’s stated capacity and duration, not a guaranteed interval for every home. Actual replacement frequency depends on use and the number of cats. Purina recommends one Breeze system per cat plus one additional system in multi-cat homes.
The system is built around purpose-made pellets and pads in Purina’s product description. The available information does not establish that generic substitutes fit or perform equivalently, so do not assume they are compatible.

What does the Breeze system cost over time?
In the Purina material retrieved for this review, the Breeze FAQ estimated annual consumable costs at about $210–$420 per cat. The estimate used a $34.99 refill bundle containing one 7-pound bag of pellets and eight pads, with the lower estimate based on four pads per month and the higher on eight pads per month. These are Purina’s estimates and listed bundle figures, not guaranteed current prices or independent price comparisons.
That estimate is useful as a framework, but your actual spend depends on current refill prices, package contents, and how often your household needs pads. The starter kit is only the initial purchase; pads and pellets are recurring consumables. Check current prices and bundle contents before buying.
Rank #4
- The Whole System: Breeze cat litter system combines litter pads, multi cat litter pellets and litter box (all sold separately) to provide amazing odor control with ease of use.
Purina’s retrieved FAQ listed starter prices of $49.99 for Original, $59.99 for Covered, and $76.99 for XL. These are the figures shown in that manufacturer material, not guaranteed current transaction prices.

Purina markets Breeze as low-tracking and “99.9% dust-free,” but the available evidence does not provide controlled head-to-head measurements against conventional litter. The separation design may appeal if you prefer removing a lower pad rather than handling urine-soaked litter, but it does not establish that every household will have less mess or odor. Pellet acceptance and the routine of changing pads are practical considerations to weigh alongside the manufacturer’s claims.

Is Tidy Cats Breeze discontinued?
Purina’s Breeze FAQ states, “No, the Tidy Cats Breeze Litter Box System is not discontinued.” That is Purina’s statement, not an independent check of stock at a particular retailer or in a particular region. Purina says systems and refills are sold through online and pet-specialty retailers; availability can vary.
Who is Breeze best suited to?
Breeze is worth considering if you want a system that separates liquid and solid waste and are comfortable maintaining a pad drawer and buying pellet and pad refills. Before choosing, weigh these household-specific factors:
Quick Recap
- Your cat’s substrate preference: the pellet surface differs from conventional litter, and acceptance is individual.
- Access and box size: compare the format and entry with your cat’s size and mobility.
- Routine: you will scoop solids and handle pad changes rather than relying on a single litter-removal method.
- Ongoing supplies: estimate pad use for your household and check current refill prices and availability.
- Evidence for performance claims: treat Purina’s dust, tracking, and odor statements as manufacturer claims, not demonstrated comparative superiority.
