Jackie and Shadow’s third eaglet was feared missing on March 14, 2025, after viewers saw only two chicks during morning feedings. Snow blocked the camera’s view of part of the nest bowl, so Friends of Big Bear Valley could not initially determine the missing chick’s location or condition. The nonprofit later reported that one chick had died, but the reviewed reporting does not establish exactly what happened or the cause.
What happened to the missing eaglet?
Jackie and Shadow had three eaglets hatch in early March 2025. On March 14, viewers noticed that only two were visible during feedings. Friends of Big Bear Valley explained that snow obscured part of the nest bowl from the camera, leaving a section out of view. The third chick might have been in that hidden area, and its condition could not be determined from the livestream.
On the following day, the nonprofit said the chick’s remains might be visible in the nest bowl, but it was waiting for a clearer view. Friends of Big Bear Valley later reported that one chick had died. The cited reporting does not establish the specific circumstances or cause of death.
CBS Los Angeles reported on the initial concern, and LAist covered the later update.
