The brand’s claims about recipe design, sourcing and factory controls are its own. Independent reviews rate the range editorially, not clinically. The main veterinary position is against raw meat-based diets: the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Global Nutrition Committee recommends against them. A cat owner considering Bella+Duke should decide only after discussing the diet with their vet, and after checking the points below against the live product pages.
What Bella+Duke sells
Bella+Duke sells raw cat food as complete recipes, frozen and delivered to the home through a tailored subscription. The brand’s official cat-food page describes five recipes and lists meat, bone, offal and oils as the components. Product formats and recipe names change, so treat the list below as a snapshot of what the sources reviewed showed, not a fixed catalogue.
| Recipe (as named by the source) | Components named in the source | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Chicken recipe | Chicken, chicken heart, chicken liver, herring oil, “Full Tums” | Bella+Duke official cat-food page |
| Turkey recipe | Turkey, salmon, olive oil, herring oil, “Full Tums” | Bella+Duke official cat-food page |
| Turkey, rabbit and lamb recipes | Not stated in the sources reviewed; check the recipe page for the full ingredient list | Cat Food Advisor analysis (undated in the source reviewed) |
One discrepancy matters for buyers. The official page describes five recipes, while one search-listed review describes four. The difference most likely reflects different page versions or a range update rather than an error in either source, but you should count the recipes on the live page at the time of purchase.
Company claims and independent assessments
It helps to separate what the brand says from what outside reviewers have concluded. The two are not the same kind of evidence.

What Bella+Duke says
- Recipes are nutritionist-designed, complete and made without grains or gluten.
- Meat is sourced from BRC-accredited human-grade factories, and ingredients are frozen at source.
- All meals include heart, because cats have a limited ability to make taurine and must obtain it from food.
- The food is naturally low in iodine and low in salt, because it is minimally processed and high in moisture. Recipe sodium information is on the product pages.
- The brand describes supplier vetting, bacteria testing and RawSAFE accreditation as food-safety controls.
These are company statements. No independent audit of the manufacturing, sourcing, formulation or certification records is reported in the sources reviewed, so they should be read as claims to check, not verified facts. On its cat-food page, the brand says, “The ingredients remain frozen when we mix your best friend’s complete raw cat food in our factory.” That describes the process; it is not independent verification of food safety.
Cats.com review (updated 4 February 2026)
Cats.com assesses Bella+Duke against criteria that include ingredient quality, species appropriateness and recall history. It discusses specific recipes and includes a feeding-cost example. This is an editorial assessment, not a clinical feeding trial. The cost example was current only as of the February 2026 update, so check the live price and the brand’s subscription calculator before relying on any figure.
Cat Food Advisor rating
Cat Food Advisor gives the Bella+Duke raw range five stars and analyses a representative turkey, rabbit and lamb recipe. That is a star rating from one publication’s criteria. It is not veterinary consensus, and it does not show long-term health effects in cats.

Is it complete and balanced?
The brand calls its recipes complete, and it explains the heart inclusion through taurine. Those points are reasonable starting facts, but they are not a nutrient analysis. Listing an ingredient tells you it is present, not how much of each nutrient a cat gets per day. For a complete-diet claim to be checked, you need the guaranteed analysis and a calculated nutrient profile for the specific recipe and the feeding amount, ideally with a statement of how it was formulated and by whom.
Ask the brand for the following before you subscribe, and ask your vet to review them:
- A full nutrient analysis for each recipe, including taurine, iodine, calcium, phosphorus and sodium values, on a dry-matter or calorie basis as the brand reports them.
- Confirmation of whether any feeding trial or independent formulation review has been carried out, and the results if so.
- The recipe’s calorie content and the daily feeding guide for your cat’s weight and life stage.
The brand’s advice to contact its in-house veterinary team about iodine is a useful route for questions, but that team works for the company. An independent veterinary nutritionist or your own vet is the better check on whether a diet suits a particular cat.

Raw-feeding safety
Freezing is often presented as a safety feature for raw food. It lowers some risks but does not remove them. The WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee states that diets should be safe and nutritionally complete and balanced. It identifies risks of raw meat-based diets, including contamination by bacteria or parasites, nutritional inadequacy or imbalance, and bone-related harm where bones are included. The committee recommends against raw meat-based diets. Its position is that “There is currently no properly documented evidence of health benefits for RMBD, but there are well documented risks.”
The WSAVA toolkit adds a point that applies to any frozen raw product: “Freezing, dehydration or freeze-drying do not kill all bacteria in food.” It also notes that household members can be exposed through handling food or pet feces. This is general guidance about raw diets. It does not show that a particular Bella+Duke batch is contaminated, and it does not show that Bella+Duke’s controls are inadequate. It means the risk is still present with any frozen raw food, including products with good supplier and testing programmes.
Handling checklist
- Keep the food frozen in a dedicated freezer space and thaw it in the fridge, not on the worktop.
- Wash bowls and utensils after each meal, and wash your hands after handling food or preparing meals.
- Throw away uneaten food promptly rather than leaving it down.
- Keep raw food away from surfaces used for human food preparation, and clean those surfaces after use.
- Keep raw food and the cat’s feeding area away from young children, and do not let the cat eat from or near the family’s dishes.
Households that need extra caution
WSAVA notes heightened concern where a household includes young children, older people, pregnant people or immunocompromised individuals. Cats with medical conditions, or those on a therapeutic diet, also need veterinary input before any change of diet. Kittens and senior cats are marketed as suitable for these recipes, but the same caution about raw feeding applies.

Subscription, freezer and delivery logistics
Raw food arrives frozen, so the practical questions are storage and flexibility. Check the following on the live site, because the sources reviewed did not confirm them:
- Delivery areas. The review is written for UK readers, but the sources did not confirm which postcodes are served.
- Freezer space required for a month’s supply for your cat.
- Pausing, skipping, changing recipes and cancelling. The cancellation terms were not captured in the sources reviewed.
- Whether delivery is packed with ice or cold packs, and what to do if a delivery arrives partly thawed.
Price and cost per day
Prices change, and subscription offers may differ by recipe, quantity and delivery frequency. Cats.com has a feeding-cost example, but it is dated to its February 2026 update. For a fair comparison, work out the cost per day at your cat’s actual calorie needs rather than the cost per pack. Pack weights, calorie density and the recommended daily amount all affect the result, and two foods can have very different daily costs even at similar prices per kilogram.

Judging a food by meat percentage or a star score alone misses most of this. WSAVA’s guidance centres on whether the diet is safe, complete and balanced, and on objective nutritional assessment of the individual cat.
Who might choose it, and who should look elsewhere
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Healthy adult cat, no young children, pregnant or immunocompromised people in the home | Discuss with your vet first, check the full nutrient analysis for your chosen recipe, and follow the handling steps above. |
| Cat with a medical condition or on a therapeutic diet | Do not switch without veterinary advice. A raw complete diet may not suit the condition. |
| Kitten or pregnant or nursing queen | Seek veterinary advice before feeding; these life stages have specific nutrient needs. |
| Household with young children, older people, pregnant people or immunocompromised members | Consider a cooked, canned or dry complete diet, given WSAVA’s concern about household exposure. |
| Owner who wants a fixed, tested and independently assessed formulation | Ask for the nutrient analysis and any feeding-trial data first. If it is not available, look at other complete diets with published analyses. |
The table is a starting point for discussion with your vet, not a substitute for it.
The Bottom Line
Bella+Duke is a frozen raw subscription with recipes built around meat, bone, offal and oils, and the brand presents them as complete. Its claims about sourcing, factory controls and food safety are its own and have not been independently verified in the sources reviewed. Independent reviews are editorial. Given WSAVA’s position against raw meat-based diets, the sensible next step is a conversation with your vet, followed by a check of the full nutrient analysis and live terms before you subscribe.
