PETLIBRO Polar: active cooling with scheduled meals
What the design does
Polar is built around thermoelectric cooling rather than a removable ice reservoir. PETLIBRO presents it as a wet-food feeder that can schedule three meals and dispense up to 200 ml (6.76 oz) per serving. The app is used for scheduling, and a manual-feed function is listed for an immediate meal.
This setup suits a cat that needs wet food at predictable times when nobody is home to open a pouch or can. It also removes the daily task of freezing and installing ice packs. That convenience comes with electrical, placement and cleaning requirements: the cooling vents must remain clear, the unit needs a suitable power source, and the room must stay within the manufacturer’s stated limits.
How cold is it supposed to get?
PETLIBRO reports that Polar cooled food to around 12°C (54°F) in laboratory testing at a 25°C (77°F) room temperature and claims up to 72 hours of food storage. The product overview separately describes chilling below 50°F under stated conditions. Those figures are not identical, and neither page establishes a universal result for every room, load, food type or regional model.

Food compatibility
PETLIBRO lists commercial canned food, wet pouches, semi-moist food and prescription canned food. It advises against raw food because raw diets are highly perishable and shelf life varies. A feeder’s cooling claim does not replace your veterinarian’s advice or local food-safety guidance, particularly for medically prescribed diets, kittens, senior cats or cats with compromised immunity.
Where Polar’s evidence stops
The approximately 12°C result and 72-hour duration come from PETLIBRO, not an independent laboratory or long-term owner study. Treat them as operating claims under stated conditions, not as a guarantee that every portion remains safe for 72 hours. If your home is warm, the feeder is in sunlight, the lid is opened repeatedly or the food starts warm, actual holding time can differ.
Cat Mate C500: a timer that uses frozen packs
What the instructions require
The Cat Mate C500 manual describes a digital five-meal feeder for wet food. Its wet-food instructions call for freshly opened food and two pre-frozen ice packs. The packs are the cooling mechanism, so preparation is part of every feeding cycle: freeze them in advance, install both, load the food and set the timer.
This can work well for an owner who wants a straightforward timer and does not need app access. It is also a practical fallback when a powered cooling appliance is undesirable. However, the C500 should not be described as refrigerated. Once the packs warm, the unit no longer has an active cooling source.

Confirm that the listing you are considering is the current C500 configuration, that the tray arrangement matches your feeding plan, and that replacement ice packs and trays are available where you live. - Run a supervised trial. Test one full cycle while you are home. Confirm that the tray rotates, the lid opens as expected and your cat will eat from the covered design.
- Inspect before leaving. Check that vents are unobstructed, the tray is seated correctly and no food is trapped around the moving parts.
Setting up Cat Mate C500
- Freeze both packs. Pre-freeze the two ice packs specified in the wet-food instructions. Do not substitute a partially chilled pack if the manual requires frozen packs.

Clean after each wet-food cycle
Wash removable food-contact parts with the method approved in the manual, dry them fully and check seals, hinges and the tray track. Avoid immersing electrical components unless the instructions explicitly allow it.
Maintain the ice-pack routine
For the C500, keep two packs permanently assigned to the feeder so one feeding cycle does not start with a forgotten or warm pack. Inspect packs for cracks or leaks and replace damaged ones.

The cat refuses the feeder
Offer the feeder while it is empty, then add a small familiar portion during a supervised meal. Raise the unit only if your cat’s veterinarian recommends it, and never leave a full unattended schedule until your cat reliably approaches the bowl.
A power interruption occurs
For Polar, verify the battery-backup status and the current manual’s changeover behavior. For C500, a power outage does not create active cooling; the food remains dependent on the condition of the frozen packs and the room temperature.

What PETLIBRO’s owner survey does—and does not—show
PETLIBRO announced in 2024 that more than 900 cat owners responded to its survey. The company reported that 56% named maintaining freshness as a difficulty with wet food and 50% said feeding required a person to be present at mealtime.
