The best cat-litter-box replacement filter is the one made for your box’s exact model or filter holder. The table compares manufacturer descriptions, not laboratory measurements. “Activated carbon,” “charcoal,” “zeolite,” or a scent tells you what the maker specifies, but it does not establish that one product removes more odor than another.
Catit Airsift: a pad for the Airsift holder or system
Catit’s Airsift Dual Action Odor Reducing Pad is a proprietary refill rather than a generic sheet. Catit describes each pad as cotton mesh, activated carbon, and Catit Magic Blue. The company says the combination is intended to reduce foul litter-box odors through the ammonia-control properties of Magic Blue and the odor-absorption properties associated with activated carbon. That is a manufacturer description, not an independent effectiveness result.
Catit states that one pad lasts about 30 days in a single-cat or two-cat household when litter is scooped daily. The stated interval belongs to those conditions; heavier use or delayed scooping may require earlier replacement. Catit lists two-pad and six-pad packs, so the stated schedule corresponds to roughly two or six months of pads only when those household and care assumptions hold.

Where it fits
The reusable Airsift Pod is designed for hooded boxes. Catit also sells litter boxes with an integrated Airsift filter system. Buy the pad only if your box has the Pod or one of the listed Airsift systems; it is not a general replacement for every hooded pan.
When this is the sensible choice
- You already own an Airsift Pod or a Catit box with the Airsift compartment.
- You want an unscented-looking pad format with the media Catit specifies, rather than cutting another filter to size.
- You are comfortable following a roughly monthly schedule under Catit’s daily-scooping assumptions.
Arm & Hammer Universal: broad hooded-pan compatibility, not universal-box compatibility
Petmate’s Arm & Hammer Universal Litter Filter combines natural charcoal and zeolite. Petmate gives dimensions of 6.3 × 5.5 × 0.5 inches and says the filter fits large and jumbo hooded litter pans. The same product information explicitly says it is designed only for hooded pans, not non-hooded boxes.
Petmate says the filter can help reduce odors for up to 90 days. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a promise that every household will receive three months of useful odor control. Compare the listed dimensions with your existing holder and leave room for the compartment to close without bending the filter.

How to avoid a bad fit
- Measure the compartment, not just the outside of the litter-box hood.
- Check that the holder accepts approximately 0.5-inch thickness as well as the length and width.
- Confirm that your pan is hooded and falls within the large or jumbo format described by Petmate.
- Do not install it in an open tray or non-hooded pan simply because the word “universal” appears in the product name.
This option is most straightforward for owners of a compatible hooded pan who want a charcoal-and-zeolite filter and a replacement interval longer than the monthly schedules specified by some other manufacturers.
Whisker carbon filters: only for listed Litter-Robot models
Whisker specifies its Litter-Robot carbon filters for Litter-Robot 4, Litter-Robot 5/Pro, and Litter-Robot EVO. The listing excludes Litter-Robot 3 and Litter-Robot Connect. Confirm the model before ordering; the exclusion is a compatibility boundary, not a suggestion to trim the filter.
The filter media is activated-carbon polyester. Whisker recommends replacement every month and notes that actual timing depends on usage patterns. A home with multiple cats or frequent cycles may need to monitor odor and filter condition rather than treating one month as a guaranteed performance period.
Why this is a proprietary consumable
The carbon filter is shaped and positioned for the Litter-Robot waste compartment. A flat pad from another litter box may not seal or sit in the intended airflow path. Conversely, a Litter-Robot filter should not be assumed to fit a conventional hooded pan. Use the model list and the existing filter compartment as the deciding evidence.
Savic filters: check the toilet family, especially Mira
Savic’s 2026 catalogue describes a replaceable activated-charcoal filter for compatible hooded toilets and identifies a separate filter for the Mira box. The catalogue expressly excepts Mira from the general filter description. That means a general Savic hooded-toilet filter is not automatically the correct Mira replacement.
What to verify before purchase
- Read the toilet’s model name and compare it with the catalogue’s compatibility information.
- Check whether your model is Mira; if it is, use the separately identified Mira filter.
- Inspect the existing frame or slot so the replacement has the same shape and retention method.

Ferplast Feline Breeze: a scented, device-specific cartridge
Ferplast describes Feline Breeze replacement filters for its Genicair electronic odor remover and Nettobox disposal system. These are scented cartridges, not interchangeable flat carbon pads. If you have a large or jumbo hooded pan without a proprietary system

If you have a Savic toilet
Match the exact toilet family. Mira requires the separately identified filter in Savic’s catalogue rather than the general hooded-toilet filter.
If you have Genicair or Nettobox
Use the Ferplast Feline Breeze cartridge specified for those devices and account for its scent and four-week opened-filter guidance.

- Prepare the replacement. Keep the new pad or cartridge sealed until installation so it is not exposed unnecessarily to litter dust or household odors.
- Switch off automatic equipment. For a powered odor-removal or self-cleaning box, follow the device’s shutdown instructions before opening the compartment.
- Remove the used filter without shaking it. Place it directly in a waste bag and wash your hands after handling it.
- Clean the holder. Wipe away loose litter and dust, then let the compartment dry if you used a damp cloth. A wet holder can affect a filter’s fit and condition.
- Install the new filter in the same orientation. Reuse the frame only when the manufacturer designed it for replaceable pads; do not force a thicker insert into a shallow slot.
- Close the compartment and check airflow or movement. The hood, drawer, or access panel should close normally without pinching the filter.
- Record the installation date. Use the manufacturer’s interval as your first reminder, then adjust only when the product instructions and your household’s usage support doing so.
Troubleshooting fit and odor problems
The filter will not fit
Stop rather than trimming, folding, or compressing it. Recheck the model, holder, and dimensions. A filter that cannot lie flat may leave gaps or obstruct the compartment. For the Arm & Hammer product, verify both the hooded-pan requirement and the 6.3 × 5.5 × 0.5-inch size. For Whisker products, verify that the unit is not Litter-Robot 3 or Connect.
Odor returns before the stated interval
Replacement intervals are conditional claims. Check whether the household has more cats, more frequent box use, or less frequent scooping than the conditions described by the manufacturer. Replace a saturated or visibly soiled filter sooner, and make sure the holder itself is clean and fully closed.
The box smells after installing a new filter
Confirm that the new filter is in the intended airflow path and that any protective packaging was removed. A filter cannot compensate for waste remaining in the box, a dirty waste drawer, or a lid that does not close correctly. If the smell is a new, unusually strong odor rather than the normal litter-box smell, inspect the box and litter separately instead of adding more fragrance.
