Glenn, a blind Jack Russell Terrier, and Buzz, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, were adopted together in August 2015 after Stray Aid said they needed to stay side by side. During their time in the rescue’s care, staff described Buzz as Glenn’s close companion and guide, helping him navigate the centre. Their story is a past adoption appeal, not a current listing.

Who were Glenn and Buzz?

The dogs were found together in a sea tunnel in Hartlepool, England, in June 2015, and were taken into the care of Stray Aid in Coxhoe, County Durham. Glenn was reported to be blind; Buzz was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Contemporary reports estimated both dogs to be around nine or ten years old. ABC News quoted a rescue volunteer’s estimate of about 10, while ITV described them as around nine or ten—ages reported at the time, not verified birth dates.

The phrase “seeing eye dog” captures the pair’s close relationship, but reporting described Buzz as Glenn’s companion and guide, not as a formally trained or certified guide dog.

Why did the rescue want them adopted together?

Stray Aid staff said Buzz helped Glenn get around the centre and that the dogs became distressed when separated. Volunteer Hannah Critchlow told ABC News, “They instantly had a bond when they came in, so we kept them together.” She also said, “Whenever they’re separated they start crying and barking for each other.”

Center manager John Bielby told CBS News, “They have to be kept together — they don’t like be being separated.” The rescue’s joint-placement request was grounded in staff accounts of the dogs’ bond and Glenn’s reliance on Buzz for confidence and everyday wayfinding.

Did Glenn and Buzz find a home?

Yes. A later report said the pair found a home together in August 2015 after a screening process. The June appeal should therefore be understood as a historical story, not an indication that either dog is still waiting to be adopted.
