Boat to Bowl was a fish-first cat food line made by North Coast Seafoods. It sold dry recipes, wet pâté and fish toppers. The most recent status report available for this review is a Cats.com update dated December 23, 2025, which reports that the brand announced it was discontinuing its products and that they were no longer being produced. Treat the line as unavailable until a live retailer page confirms a current product, seller and package date. Everything below describes what the brand launched and what independent reviewers calculated, so you can judge the recipes on their merits and decide whether a fish-first alternative fits your cat.
Check availability before you buy anything
A product page that still exists is not proof of stock. Use this sequence before you consider any Boat to Bowl bag, can or topper:
- Search the exact product name on the retailer’s own site and open the product page. Note whether the listing shows a sold-by name and whether that seller is the retailer or a third party.
- Confirm the item can be added to a cart and shipped now. A listing that persists after a discontinuation may be residual inventory, or it may be stale.
- If a bag arrives, check the date code or best-by date on the package before opening it. Discard any package that is past its date, damaged, or smells rancid.
- Compare what the brand’s own website says with the product pages you found. The brand site describes the line’s formulas, but its copy does not by itself confirm that products are currently being made or sold.
What Boat to Bowl was
North Coast Seafoods, the company behind the line, is listed by Cats.com as founded in 1957. The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) published a launch announcement stating that Boat to Bowl products would be available at Target starting January 1, 2024. The brand positioned its formulas around wild-caught fish, U.S. production and fish as the sole animal-protein source. These are the brand’s own product claims, and they describe how the recipes were marketed rather than independent verification of every ingredient or health outcome.
The product range
The launch range had three kinds of product. The dry recipes are the largest part of the line and the only ones with a full calculated nutrient analysis in the sources reviewed here. The wet pâté recipes appear in later independent coverage. The toppers are small add-ons, and the sources describe them without nutrient analysis.

Toppers and fish oil
The MSC launch announcement lists three add-on products:
- A cod-and-trout food topper
- A salmon food topper
- A Wild Alaskan Omega-3 fish oil topper
Life-stage positioning and nutrient analysis for these toppers are not stated in the sources reviewed. Use them as supplements to a complete diet only if the package itself states how it should be fed.
Rank #3
- Fish is #1 Ingredient - Since the dawn of time, cats have loved their protein—so that’s why this dish is packed with delicious, crunchy bites of the good stuff: sustainably-sourced salmon and trout.
- Protein-Rich - Packed with 34% protein! This bag of kibble boosts your pet’s energy and helps them maintain lean muscle mass.
- Pre & Probiotics for Easy Digestion - Nature’s mighty little biotics work hard to ensure your pet’s gut is in tiptop shape.

- Filler Free - We don’t use fillers to bulk out your pet’s food to help us save a buck or two. There’s no nutritional value and it can contribute to obesity and lethargy. #Nope
Reading the nutrient numbers correctly
The values above are calculated analysis figures published by Cat Food Advisor, not laboratory results commissioned for this review. Expressing them on a dry-matter basis removes water from the comparison, which lets a wet pâté and a dry kibble be compared directly. On that basis, the Wild Seafood dry recipe is higher in protein (43.5%) than the Salmon pâté (35%), while the pâté is higher in fat (32.5% against 21.7%). The estimated carbohydrate figures are close (26.8% and 24.5%) and should be read as estimates rather than measured values.
Life-stage wording matters as much as the numbers. “All life stages” means the label claims suitability for kittens, adults and pregnant or nursing cats. “Maintenance” means the recipe is positioned for adult upkeep, not growth or reproduction. Choose recipes that match your cat’s age and condition, and check the package for the wording that applies.

Sourcing claims
Boat to Bowl’s central message was wild-caught fish from MSC-certified sustainable fisheries, and a stated aim to use the full fish harvest. The MSC launch announcement attributes that aim to North Coast Seafoods. MSC US Program Director Nicole Condon said in that announcement: “North Coast Seafoods’ dedication to sustainable sourcing is clear with this new product line.” That is a launch-era endorsement of the company’s approach, not a current statement about the products on shelves, and the sources reviewed here do not describe an independent audit of every product claim.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What one reviewer’s cats thought
Cats.com reports that the reviewer ordered and tested both wet recipes, both food toppers and one bag of Wild Seafood dry food. Her cats showed minimal interest in the wet foods and no interest in the dry food. This is one household’s test over a short period, not a controlled feeding trial, and it should not be taken as a prediction for other cats. The same review notes that customer experiences were mixed and that the number of ratings available at the time was small.

Recall questions
None of the sources used for this review reports a recall of Boat to Bowl products. That is not the same as a recall search. Before buying any pet food, including older stock, check the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s pet food recall listings and the seller’s notices for the specific product and lot.
How to judge a fish-first alternative
If Boat to Bowl is no longer available for your cat, these criteria apply to any fish-based food you consider:
- Life-stage statement that matches your cat’s age and health status
- Protein and fat on a dry-matter basis, where the manufacturer or an independent analysis provides them
- Named animal proteins and other main ingredients on the current package, not on a past listing
- Moisture level, since wet and dry foods differ in total water intake
- Sustainability certification, checked against the certifying body’s current records for that product
- Your cat’s acceptance over a trial period, with a plan to switch back if the cat refuses it
- Cost per feeding day, calculated from the package weight and your cat’s daily portion
- Current stock and seller authorization, confirmed on the live product page
The Bottom Line
Boat to Bowl was a coherent, fish-first line with clearly labeled life-stage positioning and a calculated nutrient analysis for its best-documented dry recipe. Its sourcing claims are attributed to the brand and to a launch-era MSC announcement, and one reviewer’s cats were not interested in the foods she tested. With discontinuation reported in December 2025, the practical verdict is to treat it as a reference point for judging fish-based foods, not as a product to buy, unless a live listing and seller confirm otherwise.
