Speaking to 7NEWS, Zally recalled: “All I heard was like slithering and stuff, and then so I looked on the ground and there was a snake . . . so I froze.” She said: “My ankle was stinging, so I looked at it, and it was bleeding. (I) just rode to my mum as fast as I could.”
PerthNow also quoted her describing the blood tests during her hospital stay: “They took a lot of blood, like every hour to see if my like, to see if my leg was going to clot or to see if my blood changed from the venom.” These are details reported by the news outlets, not an official case record.

Why was she monitored at hospital?
The reports say Zally was taken to Midland Hospital and kept under observation for about 12 hours, with no venom entering her system. The WA Child and Adolescent Health Service guideline says a suspected snakebite should be treated as potentially envenomed until proven otherwise and that evaluation takes over 12 hours. That provides general clinical context, but Zally’s reported stay does not establish a fixed observation period for every bite; clinicians determine care for each patient.
What to do if someone is bitten by a snake
A suspected snakebite is an emergency, even when the person has little pain or no obvious symptoms. HealthyWA advises calling 000 for an ambulance, applying a pressure immobilisation bandage and keeping the casualty calm and still. Follow the emergency dispatcher’s and clinicians’ directions.

- Call 000. Do not delay the ambulance call while gathering supplies or trying to identify the snake.
- Keep the person still and calm. Do not let them walk. Reassure them and wait for emergency help.
- Apply pressure immobilisation. For a bitten limb, HealthyWA advises placing a broad pressure bandage from below the bite upwards, covering the bite and extending as high as possible, then splinting the limb. Do not remove trousers to expose a leg bite; movement can help venom enter the bloodstream.
- Do not manipulate the bite or the snake. Do not wash, squeeze or puncture the bite, and do not try to catch or kill the snake.
HealthyWA lists the Poisons Information Centre at 13 11 26. Its guidance and Healthdirect’s advice are first-aid instructions, not a way to diagnose whether venom was injected. Obtain professional assessment and follow emergency-service directions.

What to do if you see a snake at a park
Give the snake space and do not approach it. In the Brabham news reports, snake handler Marcus Cosentino advised staying back and monitoring a snake near bushland so it can move away. If it is somewhere people may be at risk, such as a children’s playground, contact local rangers. Cosentino is identified in the reports as a snake handler; for a bite, use official emergency guidance rather than attempting to handle the animal.
