In the United States, the Bravecto Plus label directs one topical dose every two months, with the tube chosen by the cat’s weight. The product is labeled for cats and kittens at least six months old and weighing at least 2.6 lb. It is a prescription animal drug, restricted to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian, and it combines fluralaner and moxidectin. This guide follows the U.S. label and explains how to read its directions, which parasites it covers, what side effects are reported, and where the label itself sets limits.
Dosage: how often and which tube
The U.S. label calls for a single dose every two months. Tube selection is weight-based, using the schedule printed in the current label. The labeled minimum doses are 40 mg/kg fluralaner and 2 mg/kg moxidectin. This guide does not reproduce tube sizes, because the correct tube should be matched to your cat’s current weight by your veterinarian rather than estimated from a summary.
The label also covers several schedule situations that owners often ask about:
| Situation | What the U.S. label directs |
|---|---|
| Heartworm prevention, year-round | Dose every two months, year-round |
| Heartworm prevention, seasonal | Dose at least every two months, from first seasonal mosquito exposure through last seasonal exposure |
| Dose interval exceeded after a missed dose | Give the product immediately, then resume every-two-month dosing |
| Replacing a monthly heartworm preventive | Give the first Bravecto Plus dose within one month of the last dose of the prior product |
How to apply it
The label states: “A veterinarian or veterinary technician should demonstrate or instruct the pet owner regarding the appropriate technique for applying Bravecto Plus topically to cats prior to first use.” (U.S. Bravecto Plus label, Dosage and Administration section, revision June 2025.) Ask for that demonstration before the first application. The label’s handling directions are:

Side effects and reported reactions
The manufacturer lists the following among the most commonly reported adverse reactions: vomiting, hair loss, itching, diarrhea, lethargy, dry skin, elevated ALT (a liver enzyme), and hypersalivation. Merck Animal Health’s Bravecto Plus for Cats page provides this summary.
The official U.S. label describes a controlled U.S. field study of 176 treated cats: 135 received Bravecto Plus and 41 received a monthly topical active control. The label reports no serious adverse reactions in that study. This was one trial with its own population and conditions. It is not a guarantee of safety for any individual cat, and it is not a personal risk estimate.

The isoxazoline neurologic warning
Fluralaner belongs to the isoxazoline class. The label warns that this class has been associated with neurologic reactions, including tremors, ataxia (loss of coordination), and seizures, and it advises caution in cats with a history of neurologic disorders. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration states that seizures may occur in animals without a previous history of them, and it recommends discussing product options with a veterinarian. The FDA’s fact sheet on potential adverse events associated with isoxazoline flea and tick products gives class-level context.
Contact your veterinarian promptly if your cat develops tremors, unsteady walking, seizures, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, or unusual lethargy after a dose.

Questions to bring to your veterinarian
No head-to-head comparison between Bravecto Plus and other parasite products is established in the current U.S. label or FDA material, so this guide does not rank it against alternatives. If you are weighing options, compare them on the same decision points: parasite coverage, labeled duration, minimum age and weight, route of application, precautions, and your cat’s health history. Then confirm with your veterinarian:
- Which tube matches my cat’s current weight on the label schedule?
- Does my cat have any history of neurologic disorders or seizures?
- Is my cat pregnant, nursing, or intended for breeding?
- Is my cat heartworm-positive, or is it bathed or swims often?
- Which parasites are active where I live, and are they on the label?
