No—Cheez-Its aren’t a good treat for cats. They’re salty human snack crackers, and veterinary guidance lists salty snack foods among foods cats should avoid. If your cat eats some, don’t use the human nutrition label to estimate a safe amount; contact your veterinarian for advice about your cat and how much was eaten.
Why Cheez-Its aren’t suitable for cats
They’re a salty snack
VCA includes salty snack foods among foods to avoid for cats. Cheez-It Original’s ingredient list includes salt, so the crackers are not an appropriate routine reward. The consulted sources do not establish a Cheez-It-specific safe quantity for cats.

The cheese does not make them a good treat
Cheez-It Original lists cheese made with skim milk. The ASPCA notes that pets do not have significant amounts of lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose, so dairy products can cause diarrhea or other digestive upset. Cheese flavor is not a reliable sign that a snack is safe for a cat.

What the Cheez-It label says—and what it does not
The manufacturer’s page for one snack-pack format lists a 42 g pouch with 210 calories and 290 mg of sodium. Its ingredient list includes enriched wheat flour, vegetable oil, cheese made with skim milk, and salt among ingredients present at 2% or less. These are human food-label figures for that package example, not a feline safe-dose guide. Cheez-It products and package information can vary or change, so check the package in hand.

Do not divide the sodium per human serving into a guessed safe number of crackers. The cited sources do not give a product-specific toxicity threshold for cats.
What to do if your cat ate a Cheez-It
- Move the package out of reach. Note the product and, as best you can, how much may be missing and when it was eaten.
- Call your veterinarian for case-specific advice. Share your cat’s weight, health conditions, any prescription diet, the product, and the estimated amount. Do not assume a small-looking amount is safe based on the human serving size.
- Get prompt help if the amount may be excessive or your cat seems unwell. Contact your veterinarian and Pet Poison Helpline. Do not induce vomiting or give home remedies unless a veterinary professional tells you to.
Pet Poison Helpline lists vomiting, reduced appetite, diarrhea, excessive urination, dehydration, lethargy, tremors, and seizures among possible signs of salt toxicity. If you observe concerning signs, contact a veterinarian promptly rather than waiting for them to pass.

What to offer instead
Choose a cat-appropriate commercial treat rather than a salty human snack. VCA recommends keeping treats within 10% of a cat’s total daily calorie intake; ask your veterinary team about your cat’s calorie needs and which treats fit. A medical condition or prescription diet may make some treats unsuitable, so check before adding one.
