Start with the reference intervals printed on your cat’s own report, then read flagged values as clues—not diagnoses. A complete blood count (CBC) looks at blood cells; a chemistry panel measures substances in the liquid part of blood. Your veterinarian interprets both alongside your cat’s age, symptoms, exam, history and previous results.
What the report’s sections measure
Complete blood count (CBC)
A CBC measures blood cells and may list red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit and red-cell indices; white blood cell count and differential; and platelets. Some laboratories also report cell appearance or other components.

- Red-cell measures help assess anemia and the blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity. If a cat is anemic, a reticulocyte count can help show how the bone marrow is responding. Cornell says it adds this count to its standard hemogram for anemic cats and dogs.
- White blood cells and their differential provide clues about immune and inflammatory processes. A high or low count can have different explanations; one value alone does not identify a cause.
- Platelets are relevant to clotting. An automated flag or unusual count may need review of a blood smear or additional testing.
Chemistry panel
Chemistry measures substances in the liquid portion of blood. Depending on the laboratory and panel, it may include glucose, electrolytes such as sodium, calcium, proteins, kidney-related measures such as urea nitrogen and creatinine, and enzymes associated with tissues such as the liver. It can help screen for, investigate or monitor illness, but panels differ and individual analytes are interpreted together.

Hydration, other results, medications and signs at home can affect how a veterinarian interprets it. For instance, a glucose interval published by Cornell applies to serum tested on its Cobas 501 analyzer, not as a universal range for every cat or laboratory. Use the interval printed on your cat’s report.

Tests added for a specific question
Not every routine panel includes the same tests. Depending on age, history and the reason for testing, a veterinarian may add FeLV/FIV screening, thyroid testing or SDMA when assessing kidney health. These tests address different questions; ask what each one is intended to check in your cat.
How to interpret a high or low flag
A reference interval describes results in a reference population; it is not a guaranteed line between healthy and sick. Cornell says its intervals include 95% of normal samples, so some healthy animals will fall just outside a limit. With more tests, the chance of at least one out-of-range result also rises: Cornell gives examples of 0.46 with 12 tests and 0.66 with 21 tests. Those figures describe the chance of a flagged result in its examples, not the chance that a particular cat has disease.

- 𝐕𝐞𝐭-𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲- The IMPet glucose monitor has undergone 12,000+ clinical validations, achieving an accuracy rate of 95.6% when compared to professional veterinary equipment (based on the CVMA 2024 Annual Report). It is certified by ISO 15197:2015 and other international standards. Its anti-interference test strip design effectively eliminates common substance interferences in pet blood, ensuring reliable data.
- 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧-𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 – Requires only a micro blood sample (about 1/50th of a water droplet) combined with ultra-fine lancets, resulting in 90% of pets showing no resistance. Clinical data shows a 92% reduction in stress compared to traditional methods.
- 𝟓-𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 – From blood collection to displaying results in just 5 seconds, significantly reducing pet stress time—especially crucial for anxious cats and dogs. The screen clearly shows glucose levels (e.g., 100 mg/L), time, and date for easy trend tracking. The portable design (with a storage bag) is ideal for home and travel use, meeting emergency monitoring needs.
- 𝐍𝐨 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 - One-touch operation with no coding or training needed. Simple 3-step process: Insert test strip → Collect blood → Get results. This streamlined workflow enables effortless pet health management for non-professionals, putting veterinary-grade monitoring at your fingertips.
- 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 – Veterinary-recommended and user-trusted, chosen by 5,000+ veterinary institutions. Professional reliability meets stress-reducing design to minimize pet anxiety.
A flag still deserves attention, but its importance depends on how far the result is from the interval, whether related results form a pattern, and what is happening clinically. A small isolated change may be interpreted differently from a marked change accompanied by other abnormal results or symptoms.
Do not judge a result against a random online chart or a range from another laboratory. Reference intervals depend on the laboratory’s equipment, methods and reagents. Even the sample type can matter; Cornell’s Cobas chemistry intervals are specific to its analyzer and serum samples.

Why your cat’s context and previous results matter
Veterinarians interpret laboratory findings with the cat’s age and other identifying details, medical history, signs, physical examination and, when relevant, imaging. A number that looks unusual on its own may make more or less sense when considered alongside the rest of the report and the reason the test was ordered.
Ask whether the result has changed from earlier tests. Comparing results from the same laboratory and methods can make a trend easier to interpret, because analytical differences between laboratories can look like biological change. If a value is questionable, the veterinarian may recommend repeating the test to see whether it persists or changes.

- Natural sand is heavy, to avoid high costs as result of shipping and logistics, and after many years of testing, we arrived at an optimized amount of sand that is enough for the vast majority of cats to use once, yet still remain affordable. The amount of sand supplied in the 3 bags is meant for a one-time use all at once.
- Unlike Other Non-absorbing products, our Cat Litter has a patented Hydrophobic coating, this unique feature allows urine to rest on top of the sand no matter how much your cat tries to bury it, it will pop right back up easily when you move the sand from on top of it.
- Cats Love it! Its the only 100% Natural True Hydrophobic Sand That is Non-toxic and Odorless, Unlike Other Brands That Do Not Use Natural Sand. (Cats are picky animals, some more than others, and will take time to use the sand)
- Unlike cystocentesis which involves an expensive invasive procedure, this method of Cat urine collection is clean, easy, quick and simple, and most importantly non-invasive, which can be done at-home before a visit at the Vet.
- Early detection is important! Stay on top of your Cats health with the 2 testing Strips included and test for the 4 most common indicators for your pet's health - Glucose, Blood in the urine, pH, and Protein.
Questions to ask your veterinarian
- Which results matter most in this report, and what pattern do they form?
- How far outside this laboratory’s reference interval is the result, and is that degree of change meaningful for my cat?
- Could age, recent stress, hydration, food, medication or sample handling have affected it?
- How does it compare with my cat’s earlier results, and were the same laboratory and methods used?
- Would a repeat test, urinalysis, imaging or another targeted test help clarify the finding?
- What signs at home should prompt a call or urgent visit?
There is no single generic urgent threshold for an unspecified cat. Ask the treating veterinary team how quickly to act based on the actual results and your cat’s symptoms.
