Catster’s review, updated September 15, 2026, gives the product 4.5 out of 5 and summarizes praise as well as complaints. It reports that some cats may find the nipples too large or hard, while other owners say they are easy to chew through. That review is not controlled testing, and a star rating should not be read as an efficacy or safety statistic. Is it safe for a cat that suckles fabric?
The key distinction is whether a cat is sucking without damaging the material or chewing and swallowing it. Cornell Feline Health Center warns that swallowed fabric can cause a life-threatening gastrointestinal obstruction. A soft pillow is not automatically a safe outlet for a cat that tears off and eats pieces. Its attached parts and fabric should be checked regularly, and a cat that chews the nipples or cover needs close supervision.

Cornell’s guidance on fabric sucking recommends limiting access to unsuitable targets and offering alternatives only when the cat does not swallow too much. For practical use, remove the Catsifier—or any other soft item—if you see damage that could produce swallowable pieces, or if your cat is ingesting material. Contact a veterinarian if your cat swallows fabric, injures its own skin or another animal’s skin, or has persistent or escalating chewing or eating behavior. What might be behind the behavior?
Suckling alone does not reveal why a cat does it, and it is not enough to conclude that the cat was weaned too early. UC Davis describes several possible contexts for abnormal eating habits, including early weaning, anxiety, boredom or insufficient enrichment, and compulsive behavior. Its guidance advises seeking veterinary help and ruling out medical causes when eating behavior is abnormal. If the behavior involves chewing or eating fabric, or is persistent or worsening, discuss it with your veterinarian rather than relying on a new product to identify or address the cause. Catsifier or another approach?
There is not enough evidence to say that the Catsifier is better than general enrichment or other alternatives. The more useful choice is the one your cat accepts and can use without swallowing material; persistent fabric eating may require veterinary assessment rather than another toy.
