A Cremorne dog owner said an anonymous letter complaining about her dogs’ barking threatened to poison them, prompting her to notify police. PerthNow reported the incident on 28 October 2025; its account does not include police confirmation, identify the letter’s author or establish that either dog had previously been poisoned.
What the Cremorne letter said
According to PerthNow’s 28 October 2025 report, a mother of two in Cremorne, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, shared an anonymous letter from a neighbour complaining about her two dogs barking. The letter said the writer had previously thrown treats into the yard, then added: “I am now looking at Erin Patterson mushroom recipes to make treats (I hope they like them). Council have said to do what it takes to get your dogs to be quiet.”

The report characterized the wording as a veiled threat. The letter’s author was not identified, and the report does not establish who wrote or delivered it.
What the owner said she did
The owner posted about the letter in a local Facebook community group under the title “Death Threat by Death Cap Mushrooms.” As quoted by PerthNow, she wrote: “I was shocked when I received this anonymous death threat in the mail,” and said she had notified police immediately because the letter stated an intention to kill the dogs and, in her view, posed an inherent risk to her children.

What is known about the dogs and the earlier illness
The owner described the dogs as very old, hard of hearing and asleep for most of the day. She also said one of them, a female dog, vomited for three days about six weeks after she gave birth. At the time, the family did not believe the dog had been poisoned. After receiving the letter, they came to suspect poisoning might have happened.

Why the letter referred to Erin Patterson
The report linked the letter’s reference to “Erin Patterson mushroom recipes” to the 2023 family-lunch mushroom-poisoning case. PerthNow reported that Patterson had been found guilty of three murders and was serving three life sentences with a 33-year non-parole period. Those legal details are attributed here to PerthNow’s report; the incident account does not include a direct court source.
