Crimson Desert Bird Taming Guide: Sotdae of Bond, Feeder Spots, and Trust

A complete Crimson Desert bird-taming guide covering the Sotdae of Bond quest, feeder setup, accepted foods, reported locations, Trust values, and recovery steps—with official mechanics separated from community reports.

Crimson Desert’s bird-taming system is built around one quest item: the Sotdae of Bond. Place it, load food that birds may like, let birds visit and eat, then bring a bird into your party when its Trust is high enough. Pearl Abyss confirms the feeder-and-Trust mechanic, but it has not published a complete species map, food-preference chart, or numerical Trust table. The route, locations, and figures below therefore separate official information from guide-reported observations.

The safest approach is to treat every feeder placement as an experiment: match terrain and food to a reported bird type, watch which species arrive, and change one variable at a time when they do not.

What bird taming does in Crimson Desert

Birds became recruitable pets in patch 1.04.00. Pearl Abyss describes them as companions encountered throughout Pywel and adds the Sotdae of Bond, an item that builds a bird’s Trust by holding food birds might like. The official patch notes state: “Place various types of food that birds might like on the Sotdae of Bond to feed them and gain Trust.” Read the version 1.04.00 notes.

The Sotdae is a feeding station rather than a capture tool. A bird has to visit the placed object and eat. Once the bird has accumulated enough Trust, you approach it and use the recruitment prompt. The notes confirm that feeding raises Trust, but they do not publish the number required to recruit a bird, a species list, or a map of feeder results.

Requirements: unlock the Sotdae of Bond

The item comes from a quest

You cannot begin bird taming by finding a wild bird and interacting with it. You first need the quest-reward Sotdae of Bond. Pearl Abyss identifies the item as quest obtained but does not give a full quest walkthrough in the patch notes.

The reported quest route

PC Gamer places the Sotdae in the Authorized Access section of the Trembling Woods faction quest for the Pororin Forest Guardians. That is a guide-reported route, not a separately published Pearl Abyss quest listing, so names or progression requirements may change with updates. Use the quest journal and the Pororin Forest Guardians’ Trembling Woods chain to locate the step rather than assuming the item is sold by a merchant. PC Gamer’s Sotdae guide.

What you need before placing a feeder

  • The Sotdae of Bond in your inventory.
  • At least one food category that the Sotdae accepts: meat other than bird meat, fish, insects, oats, seeds, or fruit.
  • A region where you are willing to observe several bird visits. Reported species vary with terrain and region, and no community list covers every spawn.

How to tame a bird, step by step

  1. Finish the Sotdae quest step. Follow the Authorized Access route reported for the Trembling Woods faction quest, or use your own quest markers if the game presents a different order after an update.
  2. Select and place the Sotdae of Bond. The feeder must be placed in the world before it can be loaded. Choose a location that matches the kind of bird you want to test for: mountains and cliffs for reported raptors, or river edges for reported crows and sparrows.
  3. Interact with the placed Sotdae. The interaction opens the feeding function. It is separate from the initial placement action.
  4. Load a suitable food. The reported loadable categories are meat (specifically not bird meat), fish, insects, oats, seeds, and fruit. Start with one category so you can tell whether a change in visitors is related to the food.
  5. Leave the station active and watch for visits. Birds must come to the Sotdae and eat; simply placing the object does not immediately grant a pet. If the first species is not the one you want, record the region, terrain, and food before moving the feeder.
  6. Allow repeated feeding. Every successful bite is reported to increase Trust. The official notes do not state how many visits are needed, so do not treat a fixed waiting period as universal.
  7. Approach the bird after its Trust is full. PC Gamer reports that a bird at 100 Trust can be approached and claimed with the Take In command. The 100-point figure is a guide observation, not an official value in the patch notes.
  8. Choose “Take In.” When the prompt appears, use it to add the bird as a pet. If the command is absent, continue feeding and check the bird’s Trust display rather than assuming that seeing the species means it is ready.

The loop is therefore feeder placement, food loading, visits, Trust building, and the final Take In interaction. There is no official indication that a particular bird can be recruited without using the Sotdae.

Food: what the Sotdae accepts and how preferences are reported

PC Gamer lists six accepted categories. Pearl Abyss only says to provide food that birds might like, so an accepted item is not necessarily the best item for every species.

Food category What is established How to use the information
Meat Listed by PC Gamer; the report specifies meat other than bird meat. Community guides associate meat with predatory birds. Treat that pairing as a test suggestion, not a guaranteed preference.
Fish Listed as loadable food by PC Gamer. Useful as a separate experiment when testing a river or coastal placement; no official species table assigns fish to a bird.
Insects Listed as loadable food by PC Gamer. Keep insects separate from other foods when testing so you can identify a response.
Oats Listed as loadable food by PC Gamer. No published Trust value or species preference is attached to oats.
Seeds Listed as loadable food by PC Gamer. Suitable for testing small-bird reports, but the game’s official notes do not promise that seeds attract a particular species.
Fruit Listed as loadable food by PC Gamer. Nerd’s Chalk reports apples for small birds; that is a guide-reported preference, not a universal rule.

Reported preference clues

Nerd’s Chalk says apples worked for small birds and meat for predators. Those observations can reduce trial and error, but they should not be read as an exhaustive food chart. The available official documentation does not identify each bird’s diet, and it does not say that a bird will reject every other category.

Use a controlled swap when a feeder is quiet: keep the region and terrain unchanged, replace only the food, and observe whether the visiting species or feeding frequency changes. This gives you a useful local result without turning a single guide report into a rule for all of Pywel.

Bird feeder locations and reported habitats

There is no complete official bird map. The locations below come from player and guide reports and should be treated as starting points, not spawn guarantees. A bird can fail to appear because the species is not associated with that area, because the terrain differs from the reported spot, or because the loaded food does not suit the visitors present there.

Area or terrain Birds or results reported Status and practical use
Mountain areas and cliffs PC Gamer reports attracting an eagle and a sparrowhawk on a mountain. Guide observation. Try this terrain when testing raptors, then compare meat with another accepted category.
Riverbanks PC Gamer reports a crow and a sparrow at a river. Guide observation. River placement is a useful contrast to mountain placement when you want smaller or water-adjacent species.
Hernand and Greymane Suggested by a Steam Community guide as a bird-taming region. Community tip only; the guide does not guarantee a particular species or exact feeder coordinate.
Pororin and Florindale Suggested by the same Steam guide. Use as broad search regions, not as confirmed nests.
Demeniss Port and nearby riverbanks Suggested as another river-oriented test area. Community report; terrain still matters within the named region.
Pailune Listed by the Steam guide among possible bird areas. No species or food guarantee is supplied.
Delesyia Community guide associates the area with owls. Reported association only; do not assume every Delesyia placement produces an owl.
Crimson Desert and the Trader’s Expanse Community guide suggests these for desert birds. Use as a desert-terrain experiment. The guide itself notes that its location coverage is incomplete.

The location suggestions come from a Steam Community bird-taming guide, while the mountain and river examples come from PC Gamer’s report. Neither source is an official spawn database. When a guide names a whole region, search within the terrain it describes instead of placing the Sotdae at an arbitrary town marker.

How to choose a first location

  • For a raptor experiment: begin on a mountain or cliff, where an eagle and sparrowhawk have been reported, and test meat first.
  • For small birds: begin beside a river, where a crow and sparrow have been reported, and test fruit such as apples or another accepted food.
  • For an owl experiment: use Delesyia as a community-reported lead, but be prepared to move if no owl visits.
  • For desert species: try the Crimson Desert or Trader’s Expanse, recognizing that the community guide does not document every desert spawn.

Trust values: what guides report versus what is official

The official mechanic is simple: birds eat from the Sotdae and gain Trust. The numerical details come from guides. Nerd’s Chalk reports +25 Trust per bite and a 100-point maximum; PC Gamer reports approaching a bird at 100 Trust and selecting Take In. These numbers are not stated in Pearl Abyss’s patch notes.

Mechanic Officially documented Guide-reported detail
Feeding raises Trust Yes. Pearl Abyss says food placed on the Sotdae builds Trust. No additional qualification needed.
Trust gained per bite Not stated. Nerd’s Chalk reports +25 per bite.
Trust cap or recruitment point Not stated. Nerd’s Chalk reports 100 as the maximum; PC Gamer uses 100 as the point for Take In.
Final recruitment command The patch notes do not name the command. PC Gamer reports the Take In prompt.

If the reported values are accurate for your version, four bites would represent 100 Trust. Do not force that calculation if the in-game display behaves differently: a patch can alter the increment, the display can round, and the official notes provide no numerical guarantee. Use the bird’s actual Trust indicator and the presence of the recruitment prompt as the final authority.

A reliable testing method when a feeder does not produce the bird you want

  1. Record the baseline. Note the region, the terrain immediately around the Sotdae, the food category, and the first species that visits.
  2. Change only one variable. Keep the location fixed while replacing the food, or keep the food fixed while moving from a riverbank to a mountain. Changing both makes the result impossible to interpret.
  3. Use the broadest report first. Mountain and river observations are more specific than a large regional list, so start with those terrain examples before searching an entire province.
  4. Let a successful visitor finish feeding. Moving the feeder as soon as one bird appears prevents you from learning whether that bird would have reached the reported recruitment point.
  5. Repeat a promising combination. If a mountain placement produces a raptor, keep the terrain and test another accepted food only after the current visit cycle is understood.
  6. Label your conclusion correctly. “This riverbank produced a sparrow for me” is a useful observation. “Sparrows always spawn at rivers” is not supported by the available documentation.

This method matters because Pearl Abyss has not published the complete relationship among species, food, terrain, and Trust. Community lists are most useful as leads that narrow the search, not as fixed rules.

Troubleshooting common bird-taming problems

No bird visits the Sotdae

First verify that food was loaded after placement; placing the object and loading it are separate actions. Then check the terrain against the report you are following. A mountain report is not evidence that the same species will visit a valley, and a riverbank report does not establish a result for an inland position. Finally, switch one food category at a time. Because the official notes do not publish attraction rules, an empty feeder does not prove that the item is malfunctioning.

A bird appears but Trust does not seem to progress

Make sure the bird actually eats rather than merely flying near the feeder. Allow additional visits and watch the Trust display. If you are relying on the guide-reported increment, remember that +25 is not an official value; a different patch or species could display progress differently. Changing the food or region after every visit also makes it difficult to tell whether progress is being recorded.

The “Take In” prompt is missing

Continue the feeding cycle and check the bird’s Trust before approaching it. PC Gamer’s 100-Trust requirement is a reported threshold, not a value guaranteed by Pearl Abyss. If the indicator has not reached the game’s displayed maximum, the bird is not ready. If it appears full but the prompt is absent, move close enough to target the bird and verify that you are interacting with the bird rather than the Sotdae.

The Sotdae disappears after placement

Pearl Abyss’s April 27 revision to the version 1.04.00 notes says that, in certain situations, a Sotdae that disappears after placement can be recovered through Carl’s item-recovery function at Greymane Camp. Visit Carl and use the recovery option before assuming the quest item is permanently lost. The official patch note contains the recovery instruction.

The species is different from the guide’s example

That is consistent with the evidence. PC Gamer’s eagle, sparrowhawk, crow, and sparrow observations are examples from particular terrain, not a complete roster. Community location lists are also incomplete. Keep the result as a local observation and test another reported area if you are pursuing a specific bird.

What is confirmed and what remains unknown

Question Best-supported answer
Can birds become pets? Yes. Pearl Abyss added birds as companions in patch 1.04.00.
What item starts the process? The quest-obtained Sotdae of Bond.
How does the item work? Place it, load food that birds might like, let birds feed, and build Trust.
Where is the Sotdae quest? PC Gamer reports Authorized Access in the Trembling Woods faction quest for the Pororin Forest Guardians; this route is guide-reported.
Which foods work? PC Gamer lists meat other than bird meat, fish, insects, oats, seeds, and fruit. Exact species preferences are not officially tabulated.
How much Trust does each bite add? Nerd’s Chalk reports +25, but Pearl Abyss does not state a value.
When can a bird be claimed? PC Gamer reports 100 Trust followed by Take In; the official notes do not publish that threshold.
Is there an official bird-location map? No complete map or species-by-region table is provided in the cited documentation.
What if the Sotdae vanishes? Use Carl’s item-recovery function at Greymane Camp, as described in the April 27 patch-note revision.

The practical conclusion is to use the Sotdae as a repeatable observation tool. Official information establishes the feeder-and-Trust system; player reports supply useful starting regions, food ideas, and numerical expectations. Keep those two levels of certainty separate, and you can tame birds efficiently without mistaking an individual guide result for a guaranteed Pywel-wide rule.
