What the incident can—and cannot—tell us about crocodile risk
Reptile expert Johan Marais, quoted by The Citizen on 28 March 2025, said: “People underestimate crocodiles.” The account describes a specific attack at a fishing resort; it does not provide a basis for calculating how often attacks occur, estimating local risk, or drawing conclusions about crocodile numbers. Nor do the reports establish the animal’s size, whether it was captured, or an official finding about the incident.
