The official game website refers to a launch-day “Squirrel Cam,” but the indexed official material does not independently confirm that the same event featured real squirrels, gun props, or a particular filming and animal-care setup. No official developer post, publisher announcement, or archived primary video confirming the stronger claim was located in the available research.
What reportedly happened?
The claim comes from a May 20, 2026 report by Position Is Everything, which describes the developers as streaming actual squirrels interacting with tiny gun replicas. The report characterizes the props as non-functional. In other words, the available account is not describing squirrels firing real weapons, and there is no evidence that the animals were trained to use guns.

That distinction matters. The headline wording can make the stunt sound like an animal was handling a working firearm, but the available report does not support that interpretation. It describes a promotional setup involving real animals and toy-like or replica props.
The official “Squirrel Cam” does not settle the question
The official Squirrel With A Gun website promotes a feature called “Rewatch the Launch Day Squirrel Cam!” This confirms that a squirrel-themed camera or promotional video was part of the game’s marketing. It does not, on its own, establish that the video was the 2026 livestream described by the secondary report.
It also does not confirm that real squirrels appeared with gun replicas. The indexed official wording does not provide details about the animals, props, handlers, location, duration of filming, or welfare precautions. Until a developer, publisher, official social account, or primary video archive explains the event, those details should remain unverified.

Players explore a neighborhood, collect acorns, complete quests, and use the game’s exaggerated firearms to propel the squirrel through the environment. Xbox Wire reported the Xbox Series X|S release on October 15, 2024, describing the same comic combination of squirrel antics, weapons, puzzles, and suburban exploration.
Readers who want the game itself can look for the official Squirrel With A Gun game through the developer, publisher, or platform storefront listings. The verified commercial information supports a digital game purchase, particularly through Steam and the listed console platforms; it does not establish the availability of an official physical edition or licensed merchandise.
Were the squirrels in danger?
The available reporting raises reasonable questions about how the animals and filming environment were managed, but it does not document an animal-welfare violation. It would therefore be inaccurate to state that the developers mistreated the squirrels or knowingly placed them in danger based only on the material currently available.
At the same time, the absence of verified welfare information is a meaningful limitation. A responsible production involving live animals would ordinarily be expected to address issues such as:

- Whether the squirrels were captive animals, wildlife under professional care, or animals appearing in a controlled rehabilitation or educational setting.
- Who supervised the animals and whether a qualified animal-care professional was present.
- Whether the replica props were lightweight, inert, and incapable of firing projectiles.
- How close the props and cameras were placed to the squirrels.
- How long filming lasted and what steps were taken to prevent stress, overheating, escape, or injury.
- Whether the animals could freely move away from the set and whether filming stopped when they showed signs of distress.
None of those production details should be invented or inferred from a short description of a livestream. The available evidence supports questions, not a definitive welfare judgment.
Did squirrels really “play with guns”?
Not in the ordinary meaning of that phrase. The secondary report says the objects were tiny, non-functional gun replicas. There is no located evidence that the squirrels operated working firearms, understood the props as weapons, or were trained to perform weapon-related behavior.
A more accurate summary is: a secondary report says a promotional stream showed real squirrels near or interacting with inert miniature gun props inspired by a video game. Even that wording should retain the attribution until a primary source confirms the event.

- Whether the “Squirrel Cam” mentioned on the official website was the same event described in the 2026 report.
- Whether Dee Dee Creations or Maximum Entertainment officially organized, hosted, or endorsed the reported livestream.
- Where the stream was broadcast and whether a complete recording still exists.
- What the props looked like and whether every object shown was non-functional.
- What animal-handling, veterinary, or welfare procedures were used.
- Whether the squirrels were domesticated, captive, rehabilitated, or wild animals.
Those gaps are especially important because the story’s most attention-grabbing detail comes from a single secondary report, while the official material located so far confirms only the broader “Squirrel Cam” marketing concept.
Is there official Squirrel With A Gun merchandise?
Search results include third-party marketplace designs, but the available evidence does not establish that those products are licensed by Dee Dee Creations or Maximum Entertainment. They should not be presented as official game merchandise.
No useful, verified physical Amazon product tied directly to this story was identified. Generic squirrel toys, toy guns, webcams, microphones, or streaming accessories would not be an honest recommendation: they are not central to the reported event and could blur the difference between a game promotion and real-animal care.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe careful verdict
The story is plausible as an attention-grabbing promotion for a game built around a squirrel and firearms, and the official site confirms that a “Squirrel Cam” was part of the marketing. But the stronger claim—that the developers streamed actual squirrels interacting with miniature gun props—currently rests on a secondary report rather than independent official confirmation.
