After a loud bang, Rolo the Australian Kelpie reportedly watches a front-loading washing machine while it runs. His owner’s playful caption calls it an “emotional support washing machine”—but the story is one owner’s account, not evidence that washers treat noise fear in dogs.
What happened to Rolo?
DogTime reported on October 5, 2026, that Rolo watches clothes spinning in a front-loading washer after hearing a loud bang. The report reproduces the owner’s on-screen text: “When my dog hears a loud bang, he likes us to turn on the washing machine so he can watch it and calm down.”
DogTime credits the video to @theaustriankelpie on Instagram. The owner is not named, and the original reel was not available for direct verification. The account here therefore rests on DogTime’s report and its reproduction of the owner’s words.
Why does the owner call it an “emotional support washing machine”?
DogTime reports the owner’s caption as: “Anybody else’s dog have an emotional support washing machine.” The phrase is a playful description of Rolo’s reported routine: after a bang, the family turns on the washer, and he watches it.

The report suggests the machine’s sound and spinning appear to calm him, but that is an interpretation of this particular clip—not an established explanation of Rolo’s behavior. It does not show that washing machines generally soothe dogs or that turning one on is a proven response to noise fear.
How popular was the post?
DogTime said the post had received more than 3,000 likes at the time of its October 5, 2026 report. Social-media engagement changes, so that figure is a snapshot, not a current count.

What the story does—and does not—show
- Reported: Rolo is identified as an Australian Kelpie, and his owner’s on-screen text says the family turns on a washer for him to watch after a loud bang.
- Not established: The report offers no independent behavioral assessment, veterinary opinion, or evidence of a general calming effect or treatment.
- Source context: AOL republished DogTime’s report on the same date; that syndication is not separate confirmation of the incident.
For now, “emotional support washing machine” is best understood as the owner’s affectionate caption for one dog’s reported response—not a recommendation for other dogs.
