Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast puts a dog at the center of its survival story, but reports of dogs in the theater audience are a separate matter: no available announcement confirms that dogs were admitted to the film’s screenings. Four dogs portrayed Odin, the retired military working dog who becomes stranded with Pitt’s character in Alaska.
What is Brad Pitt’s new dog film?
Heart of the Beast is a fictional survival thriller starring Brad Pitt as James Belmont, a veteran whose plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness. He and his combat dog, Odin, must try to survive. Paramount lists the film for U.S. theatrical release on September 25, 2026; see Paramount’s official film page for its synopsis and release details.
The Associated Press describes the story as fiction, not a true account. Its review also reports a U.S. PG-13 rating. The film’s classification in Indonesia is different: that country’s Film Censorship Institution lists it for viewers aged 13 and older. Ratings apply in their respective jurisdictions, rather than establishing a universal classification. The AP review and Indonesia’s Film Censorship Institution listing provide those details.
How many dogs played Odin?
Four dogs portrayed Odin, rather than a single dog performing the entire role. The Associated Press reports that a German shepherd named Uber handled most of Odin’s performance and that a little CGI was used. Indonesia’s Film Censorship Institution also identifies four dogs as portraying the character, with different dogs used for different roles. Those accounts describe a multi-dog performance with Uber doing most of the work, not an exclusive one-dog casting. Read the AP review and the Indonesian film listing.

Were dogs allowed in the audience?
Dog attendance at Heart of the Beast screenings has not been confirmed by the available announcements. The San Sebastián Film Festival announced an out-of-competition screening attended by Brad Pitt and director David Ayer, but its announcement does not say dogs could attend. A festival announcement naming human guests is not evidence of a dog-friendly theater policy; check directly with the venue about its rules for any particular screening. See the San Sebastián festival announcement.
What was the film’s dog adoption event?
A separate promotional event connected to the premiere celebrated 14 dogs with Nashville rescue organization Wags & Walks. A Paramount-distributed release later reported that two dogs, Trix and T-Rex, had found homes. This was an adoption event—not confirmation that dogs sat in the screening audience. The Paramount-distributed announcement describes the event.

How dog-friendly screenings differ
Some films do have screenings designed to welcome dogs, but a separate example cannot establish the policy for Heart of the Beast. In July 2026, Cineverse, Air Bud Entertainment and PEDIGREE announced August screenings of Air Bud that welcomed dogs and included hydration stations and product samples. That was a distinct promotion for a different film, not a Heart of the Beast event. See the Cineverse announcement via PR Newswire.
