Equine Voice is a horse behaviour and welfare app for recording observations and looking for patterns over time. Its publisher says the app draws on several named welfare and behaviour frameworks, but the available information does not independently establish that it is the world’s first app of its kind or that every feature is grounded entirely in peer-reviewed science. It can support observation and discussion; it is not a veterinary diagnostic tool.

What Equine Voice is designed to do

Equine Voice describes itself as a digital field companion for observing an individual horse, keeping a wellbeing record and revisiting patterns. Its publisher lists structured observation, a Behaviour Journey, an enrichment planner, a signals guide and an AI Behaviour Interpreter among its features. These are the publisher’s product descriptions, not the results of an independent evaluation.

The intended use is practical: record what you notice instead of relying on memory, then use the history to support reflection or a conversation with a vet or behaviour professional. The publisher also presents the app as a way to understand behaviour rather than simply manage it.

What science Equine Voice says informs the app

Equine Voice’s science page names four frameworks or research areas as influences on its design. The page describes the publisher’s stated foundations; it does not independently verify the accuracy of each interpretation or app output.

#1 Best Overall
  • Five Domains Model: a framework for considering nutrition, physical environment, health, behavioural interactions and mental state.
  • Teleonome framework: the publisher says this informs behaviour interpretation, enrichment categories and educational content.
  • World Horse Welfare’s HEY (Horses’ Experiences on Yards) framework: the publisher says it informs welfare-observation language and five enrichment categories: Social, Cognitive, Feeding, Physical and Sensory.
  • Ridden Horse Pain Ethogram (RHpE): the publisher says this informs the signals guide and observation activities.

Equine Voice’s science page includes bibliographic references, including a 2020 Five Domains paper and a 2026 Teleonome paper. The presence of references is useful context, but it does not by itself establish that every app feature or AI-generated interpretation has been validated against peer-reviewed evidence.

Observation is not diagnosis

The app’s pain-related material is presented as a way to record signs and support discussion, not to determine whether a horse has a medical condition. A behaviour change or possible pain sign should be considered alongside the horse’s history and circumstances. Use a veterinarian for assessment and diagnosis; the app is not a substitute for professional care.

Similarly, an AI Behaviour Interpreter should be treated as an aid to reflection rather than an authority on what a horse is feeling or why it is behaving a certain way. Record observations as specifically as possible and share relevant information with a qualified professional when you are concerned.

The feature descriptions and prices above come from Equine Voice, not an independent test of the app or its outputs.

Is the “world’s first” and “entirely peer-reviewed” description established?

Those claims should be read as promotional wording, not independently verified facts. Equine Voice’s own research page identifies frameworks and papers it says informed the app. The available evidence does not establish that it was the world’s first horse behaviour and welfare app, or that every part of the product is grounded entirely in peer-reviewed ethological science.

Who may find it useful

Equine Voice may suit an owner who wants a structured place to note observations, monitor changes and prepare for discussions with a vet or behaviourist. Its value will depend on whether the recording process fits the owner’s routine and whether the app’s guidance is used with appropriate professional input. It should not be treated as a replacement for direct assessment of the horse.

For comparisons with other tools, consider whether each offers a usable observation history, explains the welfare frameworks behind its content, distinguishes education from diagnosis, clarifies included horses and features by plan, and states a current price. No comprehensive comparison of alternatives is established here.
