Fi describes how its collar connects and what features it offers; an event’s foam has its own ingredients and instructions. A foam dog toy is different again. None of these is a guarantee against a lost dog or a substitute for checking the product and supervising play.
What a Fi GPS collar can—and cannot—do
Fi’s support article, dated June 17, 2025, describes a connection hierarchy. When the collar is near a Fi Base, Wi-Fi, or a smartphone running the Fi app, it uses those connections to locate the dog and display activity. Outside those connections, it uses GPS/LTE-M to acquire location. Fi says GPS access requires a membership, GPS/LTE-M is not reliable indoors, and using GPS takes more battery.

That makes a tracker one layer of lost-dog preparedness, not a promise of uninterrupted location. Keep identification on your dog, use a secure leash or properly fitted harness where appropriate, and have a plan for what to do if your dog goes missing. Fi’s current Series 3+ page advertises wireless charging, an LED light, GPS, water resistance, and up to three months of battery life. Fi also describes IP68 and IP66K resistance and gives a 50-meter depth figure. These are Fi’s stated specifications, not independently tested results; real-world battery life and location behavior should not be assumed to match an advertised maximum in every situation. Fi’s site also reports “Thousands” of dogs reunited since 2019, “Millions” of walks, and “Billions” of steps taken by Fi dogs in 2025. Those are rounded company-reported totals, and the cited page does not provide a methodology. They are not independently verified success rates.
Event foam is not the same as a foam dog toy
“Foam” describes very different products. Foam it Up LLC’s event foam is a solution used to create foam at events. The Hyper Pet Chewz Hubcap, by contrast, is a physical EVA foam fetch toy. A description of one cannot establish the safety of the other.

Before bringing a dog to a foam event
Foam it Up’s FAQ says its event foam is hypoallergenic, non-toxic, dye-free, non-staining, biodegradable, and safe for pets, and that it is mostly water with two foaming agents. Those are the vendor’s claims. Its page does not give the precise ingredient names, product label, concentration, or dog-specific ingestion guidance, so it does not establish that the foam is safe to eat or harmless for every dog. - Ask the event organizer for the exact product being used and its label or safety information.
- Check whether the event has dog-specific rules and whether dogs are permitted in the foam area.
- Keep your dog from drinking or eating foam, and supervise closely.
- Stop the activity and move your dog away if you notice irritation or distress. Ask a veterinarian for advice if symptoms persist or you are concerned about exposure.
Choosing and supervising a foam toy
Petmate describes the Hyper Pet Chewz Hubcap as an EVA foam toy for fetch and indoor or outdoor play that floats in water. That manufacturer description applies to this toy, not event foam. Supervise play, inspect the toy, and remove it if it becomes damaged. Product details are on Petmate’s Hyper Pet Chewz Hubcap page; check a retailer for current availability.

A separate Fi safety notice: two supplement lots
The FDA published a notice on September 8, 2026, about a recall announced by Fi Barking Labs Corp on September 3, 2026. It covers these specific dog-supplement products and lots because of possible Salmonella contamination:
- Fi Calming supplement for Dogs, 180 g, lot 26118, UPC 8 50064 80011 1.
- Fi 8-in-1 Formula supplement for Dogs, 180 g, lot 26159, UPC 8 50055 11168 4.
The FDA says purchasers of the listed lots should discontinue use, keep the container sealed, and dispose of it in the trash. Its notice describes possible illness in animals and risk to people handling contaminated products or animal waste. This is a specific-lot supplement recall, not a recall of Fi collars. Check the FDA recall notice for current instructions.

Fi-compatible accessories are separate from the tracker
Rope Hounds describes a Party Starter collar band as compatible with Fi collars, but says buyers must select the correct generation—Series 3/3+ or Series 2—and that the Fi tracker is sold separately.
