Four adopters describe what life with their pets looks like after coming home from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary: hikes and camping with a dog, slower walks with a senior, a cat’s favorite toys, and two cats sharing a balcony view.
Durango: a new companion for the trail
Will says Durango quickly felt like an old friend. Their time together began with a car ride and continued with a camping trip and a hike. Will also thanked the sanctuary’s staff for helping find a good match.

Jackson: growing older at home
Jim and Jeannie adopted Jackson in summer 2010, when they already had two dogs. He celebrated his 15th birthday on May 19, 2025. In the account published that September, Jackson still enjoyed walks, swimming, and patrolling the yard, taking those activities more slowly.

Vex’ahlia: curiosity, cuddles, and favorite toys
Elizabeth describes Vex’ahlia as cuddly and curious, with an eagerness to explore. Her favorite toys are springs and crunchy balls—small details that make the story feel like a portrait of an individual cat, rather than a general claim about adopted pets.

Four individual accounts, not a universal formula
These stories show different rhythms of life with adopted pets: outdoor outings, familiar routines that change with age, indoor exploration, and shared play. The details are the adopters’ accounts, not a measured comparison of adoption outcomes. Best Friends Animal Society presented them as examples of companionship, laughter, and adventure.
