Goodlands is a small, dry-only cat-food range with one kitten recipe and two adult recipes. In Cats.com’s October 2025 review, it earned 7.2/10, with price as a strength and carbohydrate content and limited variety as drawbacks. Whether it suits your cat depends on the recipe, your cat’s needs, and the current package label; the salmon recipe also contains chicken meal.
What Goodlands cat food is—and what the review found
Cats.com reviewed three recipes: Kitten Formula for Optimal Support, Chicken & Vegetables Recipe Adult Dry Cat Food, and Salmon & Vegetables Recipe Adult Dry Cat Food. Its October 2025 assessment gave the range 7.2/10 (43/60, a B grade). That is the reviewer’s rating, not a certification or a guarantee that a particular cat will thrive on the food.

The review’s category scores were species appropriateness 6/10, ingredient quality 7/10, product variety 4/10, price 9/10, customer experience 8/10, and recall history 9/10. The reviewer’s positives included animal ingredients near the start of the ingredient lists, animal-sourced fats, traceability claims, and low prices at the time. Concerns included substantial plant protein and starch ingredients, relatively high calculated carbohydrates, and the limited dry-only selection. What ingredients and nutrition stand out?
Salmon does not mean chicken-free
Cats.com reports chicken meal in the salmon recipe as well as the two chicken-led formulas. If you are avoiding chicken because of a suspected sensitivity or allergy, do not rely on the recipe name: inspect the current ingredient panel and discuss food-allergy concerns with a veterinarian.
Plant ingredients and added fats
The review identifies soybean meal, corn gluten meal, sorghum, whole ground corn, rice, and peas among the plant ingredients used across the recipes. It also reports chicken fat as a principal added fat. Fish oil appears in the kitten formula, and the salmon adult food has a higher stated omega-3 minimum than the chicken adult food, according to the review. Formulas can change, so check the bag you are buying rather than treating an older ingredient list as definitive.

Adult-food analysis: guaranteed values versus calculations
Cats.com reports the adult recipes’ guaranteed analysis as 34% crude protein, 12% crude fat, 5% crude fiber, and 12% moisture. It calculates dry-matter values of 38.64% protein, 13.64% fat, 5.68% fiber, and 42.05% carbohydrates. Its calculated caloric-weight split is 33.95% protein, 29.1% fat, and 36.95% carbohydrates.

Those dry-matter and calorie-share figures are the reviewer’s calculations from the guaranteed analysis, not manufacturer guarantees or independent laboratory measurements. The review cautions that calculated chart values may not represent typical nutrient values. The 42.05% calculated carbohydrate figure is one reason the reviewer flags the adult recipes as relatively high in carbohydrates; compare foods using the same type of analysis, not one product’s guaranteed analysis against another’s calculated dry-matter figures.

How did the food perform in the review?
Cats.com says its writer purchased all three recipes and assessed aroma, palatability, kibble, and packaging with cats. The reviewer describes small, disc-shaped kibble and says one bag contained some larger clumped pieces. These are that reviewer’s observations, not a prediction of how your cat will respond.
The review also relays mixed customer anecdotes: some people reported availability problems or that their cats refused the food, while others shared positive experiences. Such reports do not establish a general health effect or predict acceptance by an individual cat.

How much did it cost, and where was it sold?
In its October 19, 2025 review, Cats.com reported prices of $8.98 for a 3.15-pound bag and $17.98 for a 7-pound bag—about $2.81 and $2.57 per pound, respectively, at those reported prices. These are historical figures, not verified October 2026 prices. The review described Walmart as the exclusive US retailer at that time.

Is Goodlands a good fit for your cat?
The review presents Goodlands as a budget-oriented dry food with animal ingredients at the front of the listed formulas, but also notable plant ingredients and high calculated carbohydrates in the adult foods. Its limited selection offers little choice if you need wet food or a recipe without chicken. Make the decision using the current label and your cat’s circumstances rather than the rating alone.
- Check life stage: Choose a recipe labeled for your cat’s age, and verify the current package’s nutritional-adequacy statement.
- Check sensitivities: The salmon recipe contains chicken meal according to the review; read the complete current ingredient list if avoiding a particular ingredient.
- Consider moisture: These reviewed products are dry foods, so they do not provide the moisture of wet food.
- Compare nutrition consistently: Use comparable label information and analysis methods when evaluating another food; calculated dry-matter values are not the same as guaranteed-analysis figures.
- Watch acceptance: Cats differ in whether they will eat a food. The reviewer’s palatability observations and customer anecdotes cannot predict your cat’s response.
- Recheck price and stock: Retail availability and prices can change; the figures above reflect Cats.com’s 2025 review, not a current quote.
