The six recipes it highlights suit different needs, from indoor and senior formulas to dry, fresh and veterinary diets. These are Cats.com’s reported findings, not an independent label audit; check the current package and consult your veterinarian before changing food for a health concern.
How to read the six-recipe comparison
Fiber percentages are meaningful only when you know their basis. The figures below are reported on a dry-matter basis, which removes water from the comparison. That matters because wet and dry foods have very different moisture levels; an as-fed crude-fiber percentage should not be compared directly with a dry-matter figure.

The values below are therefore useful for understanding the source’s comparison, not as verified current label readings. Recipes and packaging can change.

Which recipe fits which situation?
For a general wet-food option
Cats.com chose Weruva Funk in the Trunk as its overall pick for a balance of animal protein, fiber, low carbohydrates and ingredients the article considers appropriate. Its reported 3.85% dry-matter fiber is not the highest among the six. The article also identifies relatively low fat and expense as trade-offs, so this is not automatically the right fit for every cat.
For an indoor formula or more reported fiber
Wellness CORE Indoor is the source’s high-protein indoor-food pick. Its reported fiber is about 9.09% on a dry-matter basis, and the formula includes several fiber sources. The article notes that gums can be a palatability concern for some cats. “Indoor” labeling by itself does not show that a particular cat needs more fiber.
Rank #2
- SENSITIVE STOMACHS: Royal Canin Feline Care Nutrition Digestive Care Cat Food Dry Diet is formulated for adult cats with sensitive stomachs
- HEALTHY DIGESTION: An optimal blend of prebiotics and dietary fiber for cats helps promote digestive health
- OPTIMAL STOOL: This precise diet is proven to be effective after 10 days with over 95% healthy stool quality (Royal Canin internal study)
- SPECIALIZED KIBBLE: Exclusive ring-shaped kibble encourages slower eating to help support healthy cat food digestion
- MIXED FEEDING: Perfect complement to Royal Canin Digestive Care Wet Cat Food formulas
For a senior-cat wet food
Purina ONE Indoor Advantage 7+ is the senior-cat pick in the comparison. Its reported 13.64% dry-matter fiber is based on the guaranteed analysis stated in the source, not a separately verified typical nutrient result. Review the current label if the exact amount matters.
For kibble
Solid Gold Sensitive Stomach is the dry-food option. Cats.com reports about 3.33% fiber on a dry-matter basis and notes its lower moisture and comparatively high carbohydrate content. A dry format may be convenient, but its fiber figure alone does not make it a better choice than a wet food.
Rank #3
- REAL CHICKEN FIRST: This Blue Buffalo cat food is made with real, high-quality chicken as the #1 ingredient
- DIGESTIVE CARE: This vet-recommended High-Protein cat food helps maintain stool quality and digestive health with clinically proven prebiotic fiber
- DAILY HYDRATION: This wet cat food has a high moisture content to help your kitten get their daily hydration
- HEALTHY, WHOLESOME INGREDIENTS: This natural cat food is made with no chicken (or poultry) by-product meals and no corn, wheat, or soy
- Contains: Twenty-Four (24) 3-oz cans of BLUE True Solutions Blissful Belly Digestive Care Natural Adult Wet Cat Food; Chicken
For a veterinary-directed gastrointestinal diet
Royal Canin Gastrointestinal is presented as a veterinary diet with prebiotic fiber for gastrointestinal concerns. It has the highest reported dry-matter figure in this group—about 18.4%—and the source flags high carbohydrates. Do not treat that number as a reason to start a therapeutic diet without your veterinarian’s advice.
For fresh food
Raised Right Chicken & Pumpkin is the premium fresh-food pick, with one animal-protein source, pumpkin and high moisture. Cats.com reports about 5.88% dry-matter fiber and notes both price and possible palatability issues. Whether a cat will eat it is a practical consideration alongside the nutrient profile.
Rank #4

How much fiber do cats need?
Cats.com says there is no specific nutritional requirement for fiber that applies universally to all cats; needs can vary with diet and health status. Its article gives context figures of about 0.55% fiber for a natural diet of fresh, whole rodents, about 4% for standard dry cat food, and 9–10% for typical indoor food. Those are figures reported by Cats.com in 2026, not a universal target or an independently identified scientific guideline.

More fiber is not automatically better. Cats are obligate carnivores, so a food’s fiber content needs to be considered alongside its animal-protein and overall nutrient profile. Emma Passman, identified by Cats.com as a UK-based commercial pet nutritionist, told the site that fiber may support digestion, fullness and beneficial gut bacteria, while emphasizing that it should be balanced so it does not displace essential animal nutrients.

Do indoor cats need more fiber?
Not necessarily. Indoor status, a “hairball” label or a “high fiber” claim does not establish an individual cat’s need. The source cautions against assuming that fiber alone will address weight or hairball concerns. A veterinarian can help assess the cause of a problem and whether a diet change is appropriate.
How should you compare foods?
Use more than the front-of-package claim. Check the current recipe’s fiber basis and amount, the fiber sources, animal-protein ingredients, moisture and carbohydrate information, then consider whether the food is a complete fit for your cat and budget. If a diet is intended to manage a medical condition, veterinary oversight belongs in that decision.
For a deeper explanation of how Cats.com selected and evaluated the six recipes, see Cats.com’s high-fiber cat food comparison. The site says it consulted veterinary experts, considered nutrition and ingredients, tested foods at home with two cats, read customer reviews and researched brand backgrounds. That describes the publisher’s method; it does not amount to an independent audit of the recipes or current packaging.

Ask your veterinarian before adding fiber, particularly if your cat has constipation, diarrhea, weight concerns or another ongoing condition. Cats.com says a small amount of unsweetened canned pumpkin puree may be added only when a veterinarian recommends a temporary increase. Do not use a food or supplement as a treatment plan without veterinary guidance.
